We are seeking to fill 1 full-time parental leave positions until 30th June 2027 for a female Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Workerat Riverina Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service (WDVCAS). This position will be part of a team committed to eliminating violence against women and their children. This role is based in our Wagga Wagga office which supplies support at the courts of Wagga Wagga, Junee, Temora, Tumbarumba, Gundagai, Tumut and Cootamundra.

Workers in WDVCAS provide intake, information and referrals, threat assessment, case coordination, court assistance and court advocacy to WDVCAS clients. They work in partnership with NSW Police, local courts, legal representatives and referral agencies to ensure safety and support for women who are experiencing domestic violence. WDVCAS provides court assistance and court advocacy before, during and after court for clients who are going through the ADVO process at courts within the Murray River WDVCAS district.

They also participate in the Hearing Support pilot, supplying assistance for hearings at all courts in the region.

TheDomestic and Family Violence Specialist Workerexercises a high-level of expertise to provide accessible and relevant services to women and their children.

Essential Criteria

- Demonstrated understanding of the dynamics, complexities and legal and social welfare consequences of domestic violence;




- Demonstrated understanding of the criminal justice response to domestic violence including Apprehended Domestic Violence Order (ADVO) applications and criminal prosecutions and related legal matters such as family law, care and protection, migration and victim's compensation issues;
- Demonstrated understanding of the particular needs of and challenges faced by clients from diverse communities, especially ATSI and CALD clients;
- Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with clients in crisis and provide appropriate, trauma-informed support;
- Ability to deliver services in accordance with the WDVCAS Service Agreement, WDVCAP Principles, Policies and Standards and other operational documents;
- Sound organisational and administrative and management skills;
- Ability to implement service delivery strategies aimed at ensuring the relevance, accessibility and responsiveness of specialised services to a diverse range of women and children;
- Excellent communication skills, particularly in negotiation, advocacy and conflict resolution; and
- Demonstrated knowledge of and an ability to work effectively with interpreter services and other support services for victims with specific needs.
- Current unrestricted drivers’ licence;
- Ability to travel out of area for meetings and training and to all courts within the service area;

Desirable Criteria

- Knowledge of appropriate referral agencies in service area.
- Knowledge of and an ability to work effectively with interpreter services.
