Whether you are a driller looking for your next opportunity in a role that provides work-life balance, or you’ve got a truck driving/mechanical/diesel-fitter background and it’s time to try something recent, this role could be for you!
At Drilling Around, we conduct power network drilling and earthing of the power network. We are currently searching for a Driller (or Driller’s Assistant) to join our small, family-owned business. Experience with earthing drilling work is desirable but it’s not essential.
We’re not a mining company, and we don’t do fly-in fly-out work. You’ll generally be working in and around Cairns, Monday to Friday (plus occasional weekend work). We do sometimes travel to work in remote locations, but you will know in advance so you can plan ahead, and your accommodation, meals and travel will be covered while you are away.
Before you apply, you should also know that this role requires:
- Outside work, which can be hot or wet and can require work in the sun in Summer.
- Working up to 12 hours a day when required, including starting at 6:00am.
- The ability to work and stay in remote locations for a week or longer, depending on work requirements.
- Physical fitness to lift heavy items, undertake manual labouring work, and stand for long periods of time.
- Satisfactory pre-employment medical and a negative drug and alcohol test.
We are looking for a person who:
- Holds, or is able to obtain, a current White Card (General Construction Induction)
- Has a current HR Licence (preferred) or a MR or LR Licence (minimum). Please note, this is a key requirement for the role, so if you don’t have this licence, your application won’t be progressed.
- Shows a genuine work ethic to “get the job done”
- Does the right thing, even when no one’s watching
- Has a ‘safety-first’ mindset and cares about our people - everyone in our team is a part of our family
- Is comfortable taking responsibility, enjoys demonstrating initiative, and can achieve while working autonomously, but also works well as part of the team, knowing when to take the lead, when to collaborate, and when to take direction.
- Turns up on time and meet deadlines, understanding that your actions impact your colleagues and our business
Because we are a small business, this role has opportunities for career development and progression if you want them – whether it’s learning a new type of drilling, or upskilling from previous labouring or truck driving roles. We’re also happy to have someone on the team who’s looking to step back – if you just want to offside our Driller, drive the truck, and help at job sites, we’re open to making the job work for you, as long as you’re adding value to our business. Upload your Resume and a short (1-2 page) cover letter showing us how you meet the above criteria and what you will add to our team.
Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
