Service Manager — Electrical Services (Melbourne, VIC)

Build a department. Build a career. Be part of something exciting.

About Connex Solutions

Connex Solutions is a trusted Australian electrical and telecommunications contracting company with over 90 skilled professionals across Victoria and South Australia. We deliver high-quality electrical services to government, health, education, defence, commercial, and facility management clients. We've built our reputation on reliability, safety, and technical excellence — and now we're growing our Victorian operation. This is the kind of role that doesn't come up often: a chance to take real ownership of a department, grow it with the backing of an established business, and grow your own career alongside it.

The Prospect

We're seeking a Service Manager to lead, manage, and grow our Service department from our Pt Melbourne office. Reporting directly to our Directors, you'll take end-to-end ownership of our reactive, emergency, and planned maintenance electrical services across a diverse commercial and industrial client portfolio. You'll have genuine autonomy to shape how the department operates, which clients we pursue, and how the team develops. If you're a service leader who has been waiting for a business to say "here's the department — make it yours," this is that opportunity.

The person who succeeds here will have a direct hand in our Victorian growth story, and their career will grow with it.

What You'll Be Doing

Leading and developing our team

- Leading and mentoring a team of service technicians, apprentices, and a scheduler
- Building the capability of your people — coaching, structured development plans, and supporting apprentices through their qualifications
- Growing the team as the department grows, with input into who you hire
- Coordinating after-hours and emergency service rosters

Running the department

- Owning the Finances — managing budgets, revenue targets, margins, and cost control
- Driving technician utilization, first-time fix rates, and SLA compliance across all service contracts
- Managing daily scheduling and dispatch to optimise resource allocation and response times

- Managing all service workflows within simPRO, ensuring accurate job costing, time tracking, and documentation
- Delivering regular performance reports to senior leadership using data-driven insights

Growing the business

- Building and maintaining strong relationships with key service clients as their primary point of contact
- Growing the service book through proactive business development, tenders, and contract renewals
- Identifying new opportunities in the Victorian market and shaping how we go after them
- Championing continuous improvement, including the adoption of AI and digital tools to drive efficiency

Where This Role Can Take You

We're clear about this: we want someone who sees this as a career move, not just a job change.
- Grow the department, grow the role. As the service book expands, so does the scope of what you lead — more technicians, bigger contracts, broader responsibility.
- A seat at the table. You'll report directly to the Senior Management and work alongside our senior leadership team on how the Victorian business develops.
- Ongoing development, funded. We invest in leadership training, technical upskilling, and industry qualifications. Tell us what you want to build toward and we'll support it.
- A pathway forward. Our leadership team has grown from within. For the right person who delivers, there's a genuine path to broader operational or state leadership.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

- Energetic, enthusiastic, likable person who wants to do more and is interested in learning
- Electrical trade qualification (Certificate III in Electrotechnology or equivalent)
- Experience in service management or a senior supervisory role within the electrical or building services industry, or large facility management experience

- Proven experience managing teams of field-based technicians and apprentices
- Strong commercial acumen with experience managing department budgets
- Track record in client relationship management and business development
- Experience managing Service Contracts, Government Works & Sites, Education Works
- Understanding of Victorian OHS legislation (OHS Act 2004 and WorkSafe Victoria requirements) and compliance obligations in the electrical industry

Desirable:

- Registered Electrical Contractor (REC) registration
- Experience working across multi-site government, health, or education portfolios in Victoria
- Formal leadership or business qualifications — or the appetite to pursue them

Who You Are

- A natural leader who inspires teams and takes ownership of results
- Ambitious about where you want your career to go, and looking for a business that will back you
- Commercially focused — understanding commercial outcomes and adept at managing KPIs
- A clear communicator across all levels, from technicians on-site to executive stakeholders
- Solutions-oriented with a proactive approach to operational challenges
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, reactive environment while still driving strategic initiatives
- Genuinely invested in developing the people around you
- Open to leveraging technology and innovation to improve how things get done

What's In It For You

- Competitive salary package plus superannuation and company vehicle
- Leadership role with genuine autonomy and influence over department direction
- The chance to build something — a growing department in a growth market, with your fingerprints on it
- Funded professional development and clear support for where you want to take your career
- Join a well-established company with a strong pipeline of work across VIC and SA
- Collaborative leadership team that values initiative and fresh thinking
- A culture where good ideas get heard regardless of who they come from
