Castle and Cubby
Bayswater
Experienced Woodworker / Assembler
Castle & Cubby — Bayswater, Melbourne Castle & Cubby designs and builds custom timber play equipment, cubby houses, and nature play environments for schools and early learning centres across Melbourne. We're growing, and we're looking for a couple of skilled, switched-on people to join our workshop team.
About the team
Our workshop crew is young, energetic, and curious — a great bunch of people who genuinely enjoy the work and each other's company. We're looking to build on that. We want people who bring the same lively energy, who ask questions, who want to get better at their craft, and who want to help shape how we build things — not just follow instructions.
About the role
You'll be working across the full assembly process — from our automated docking saw and CNC through to hand finishing and spray painting — so you'll come to understand every stage of how a product gets made, start to finish. We want people who want to be across the whole process, not just one station. We're after people with a background in areas like:
- Set design
- Shopfitting
- Assembly work (furniture, cabinetry, joinery, or similar)
We're not looking for tradespeople who've spent their whole career on-site and are just after any indoor job — we want people who genuinely want to work with their hands in a workshop setting, who like the idea of a role that's hands-on and repetitive in parts, but with real room for creativity,
input into product development, and career growth as the business grows. Inventory management experience is a bonus — someone comfortable helping keep stock and materials organised as part of the job.
What matters just as much as the skills
We think about this role as 50% what you do and 50% how you do it. The technical skills matter, but so does how you show up for the team. We're a supportive, open workplace — we don't do gossip, we value honest feedback, and we care about the team working together and backing each other up. If that sounds like the kind of workplace you want to be part of, we want to hear from you.
What we're looking for
- Solid hands-on experience in woodworking, joinery, assembly, set building, or shopfitting
- High attention to detail and pride in quality work
- Comfortable working with machinery (CNC, docking saws) and hand tools, with training provided on our specific equipment
- A genuine interest in process, product, and continuous improvement — you'll have real input into how we do things
- A team-first attitude: supportive, direct, no drama
- Bonus: experience with inventory/stock management
What you'll get
- A secure, indoor workshop role with variety across the full build process
- Real opportunity to grow with the business and contribute ideas to product development
- A genuinely supportive, energetic team environment
