As a Financial Accountant, you will play an important role in supporting Council’s financial integrity and ensuring the effective stewardship of community resources.

About The Role

You will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing daily and monthly reconciliations, and contributing to the preparation of statutory financial reporting. Working collaboratively with teams across the organisation, you will help ensure our financial processes are compliant, transparent and aligned with Council policies and relevant legislation.

About You

You are an enthusiastic and detail‑oriented finance professional who takes pride in delivering accurate and timely work. You bring strong technical accounting knowledge, particularly in reconciliations, treasury functions and financial reporting, and you are confident communicating with both financial and non‑financial stakeholders.

Your ability to manage competing priorities, work independently and contribute positively to a team environment ensures you thrive in a fast‑paced local government setting. You demonstrate integrity, initiative and a commitment to continuous improvement, and you are motivated by supporting the financial sustainability of a diverse and community‑focused organisation.

Key Responsibilities

You will review and capitalise fixed assets, conduct stocktakes and collaborate with operational teams to ensure asset information is complete and accurate. You will manage general ledger processes including month‑end and quarter‑end procedures, prepare and review journals, reconcile balance sheet accounts and support the preparation of Annual Financial Statements.

You will provide sound financial advice to staff, ensure reporting aligns with Accounting Standards and local government requirements, and complete provisions and payroll reconciliations as needed. You will also support ad‑hoc tasks,



contribute to system improvements and uphold Council’s commitment to high‑quality customer service and financial governance.

You will provide backup and support to other staff within the Financial Accounting team assisting with Council’s investments, treasury activities and bank reconciliations when required. You will provide excellent customer service to both external and internal customers. You will perform other duties within the scope of the classification when requested.

Employment Requirements

- A tertiary qualification in accounting, commerce, economics or business, with CA or CPA accreditation or active progress toward accreditation.
- Demonstrated and proven experience in financial accounting, including strong understanding of internal controls, banking, and investment, general ledger, fixed assets, and financial reporting in accordance with accounting standards and local government legislation.
