Fire Protection Technician – Inspection & Testing

HOF Fire & Security is seeking a Fire Protection Technician to join our growing team, undertaking routine inspection, testing and maintenance of fire protection systems throughout Northern NSW. Already working in the fire industry? We'd love to hear from you.

For a candidate with the right attitude, technical ability and work ethic, we can provide on-the-job training and support you through a Certificate II in Fire Protection Inspection and Testing, with the opportunity to progress into a Certificate III in Fire Protection Inspection and Testing.
About the Role
As a Fire Protection Technician, you will be responsible for completing scheduled inspection and testing of fire protection systems across a range of commercial, industrial and residential sites. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out routine inspection and testing in accordance with AS 1851-2012
- Monthly testing of fire detection and alarm systems, sprinkler systems, pumpsets and fire water storage tanks
- Six-monthly testing of exit and emergency lighting, portable fire extinguishers, fire blankets and fire hose reels
- Inspecting equipment and systems to identify defects, faults and maintenance requirements
- Completing accurate electronic inspection records, asset information, technician notes and defect reports
- Taking appropriate photographs and recording supporting information for identified defects
- Completing minor repairs, replacements and adjustments where required and within your competency
- Assisting with fault finding and investigation of fire protection systems
- Ensuring scheduled testing is completed thoroughly and within required timeframes
- Communicating professionally with clients and site representatives
- Maintaining your company vehicle, tools and testing equipment
- Working independently while maintaining regular communication with our scheduling and operations team
- Following HOF Fire & Security procedures, WHS requirements and applicable Australian Standards
HOF Fire & Security uses Uptick for asset management, scheduling, inspections and reporting. Previous experience with Uptick is preferred, however training will be provided where required.
Who We're Looking For
We're open to applicants with existing fire industry experience as well as candidates from electrical, mechanical, maintenance, construction or other technical backgrounds who are interested in developing a career in fire protection. We're looking for someone who:
- Is reliable, punctual and takes pride in their work
- Has a strong work ethic and positive attitude
- Has good mechanical and technical aptitude
- Has solid attention to detail
- Is willing to learn and undertake further training
- Is comfortable working independently and managing a daily schedule
- Can follow procedures and technical requirements
- Communicates professionally with clients and team members
- Is comfortable using tablets, mobile devices and electronic reporting systems
- Holds a current Australian driver's licence
The following will be highly regarded:
- Certificate II or Certificate III in Fire Protection Inspection and Testing
- Previous experience undertaking testing to AS 1851-2012
- Experience with fire detection and alarm systems
- Experience testing sprinkler systems, pumpsets and tanks
- Experience with portable fire equipment and exit/emergency lighting
- Experience using Uptick
- Electrical, mechanical, plumbing or other relevant trade/technical experience
Existing fire industry qualifications are not essential for the right candidate.
