About the role
Cultural Guides are an integral part of the of the GBR Biology (Experience Co) team and help the team promote First Nations culture within Tourism and its connection to land and sea country. This is done through high quality interpretation and storytelling of the World Heritage Great Barrier Reef. You will also ensure our passengers have an enjoyable and high quality experience by maintaining the highest possible level of safety and professionalism.
We strongly encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We particularly welcome applications from people with cultural connections to the Gimuy Walubara Yidinji, Yirrganydji, Djabugay and Yidinji peoples, recognising the important connection of Traditional Owners to the lands and waters of the Cairns and Great Barrier Reef region.
We also warmly welcome applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples from all Nations, communities and cultural backgrounds.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Interpret and present the Great Barrier Reef to passengers through a cultural lens
- Present cultural presentations to passengers
- Provide commentary to passengers on Glass Bottom Boat tours
- Work alongside First Nations Reef Education Rangers to promote awareness and conservation
- Assist GBR Biologists with presentations
- Attend to passenger needs and provide them with excellent customer service
- Assist the team with day to day vessel operations
About you
- You have a strong interest in sharing and promoting First Nations cultures and connections to Country and Sea Country.
- You are passionate about sharing knowledge and creating greater awareness of First Nations culture and the Great Barrier Reef.
- You are interested in developing your skills, building a career and growing into future leadership opportunities.
- You are excited by the opportunity to develop a career in the tourism industry.
- You are a confident communicator with strong presentation and public-speaking skills.
