Norfolk Island Regional Council is seeking a motivated and skilled Governance Coordinator to play a key role in strengthening Council's governance framework, statutory compliance and corporate reporting functions. Working closely with the Administrators, General Manager, managers and staff, you will provide trusted governance advice. You will coordinate policy and governance review processes, oversee governance reporting and registers, and support Freedom of Information and privacy obligations.
This is an opportunity to drive continuous improvement and help ensure Council meets its legislative and strategic responsibilities.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate Council and committee governance processes, including agendas, business papers, minutes, resolutions and action tracking.
- Maintain governance registers, including policy and procedure registers, personal interest returns, risk and other statutory or internal registers.
- Support legislative compliance activities, including monitoring governance-related legislative changes.
- Coordinate Freedom of Information, privacy and information access matters.
- Support corporate planning and reporting processes, including strategic and operational planning documents.
- Provide practical governance advice and support to the Administrators, General Manager, managers, staff and advisory committees.
- Assist with governance-related induction, training and guidance materials.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of Council’s governance systems, processes and reporting.
About you You are an experienced governance qualified with a strong understanding of corporate and local government governance,
compliance and legislative frameworks. You have demonstrated experience supporting Council and committee processes, preparing business papers and minutes, maintaining governance records and registers, and developing policies and procedures. You are a confident communicator with excellent written skills, you can interpret and apply legislation, provide practical advice to leaders and stakeholders, and manage competing priorities with professionalism, discretion and attention to detail.
Working knowledge of local government frameworks, including the current NSW framework and the transitioning Queensland-based model, will be highly regarded.
