Our Airports team supports airport owners, operators and government clients across planning, design, inspection, construction support and asset management.

About the role

This is an opportunity for a graduate civil engineer to build specialist capability in airport and airfield infrastructure. Based in our Sydney office, you will work alongside experienced engineers on projects spanning runway, taxiway and apron geometry, aircraft pavements, drainage, utilities, earthworks, master planning and operational readiness. You will contribute from feasibility and design through to site inspections, technical reporting and construction support.

What you will do

- Assist with civil and airfield calculations, drawings, models, specifications and technical documentation under senior supervision.
- Support runway, taxiway and apron geometry, aircraft pavement, stormwater, utility, earthworks and landside infrastructure design.
- Participate in aerodrome inspections, site investigations and condition assessments, including field measurements, photographs and asset data collection.
- Help prepare pavement investigations, maintenance plans, inspection reports, defect schedules, technical memoranda and supporting drawings.
- Develop and check design outputs using Civil 3D, 12d Model, AutoCAD and other relevant engineering tools.
- Prepare clear reports, design notes, schedules and client deliverables, coordinating inputs across disciplines and locations.
- Apply relevant aviation standards, safety requirements and JJR quality systems when working at operational airports.
- Support project delivery by monitoring assigned tasks, timeframes, budgets, risks and document control requirements.




- Contribute to design reviews, tenders and continuous improvement initiatives as required.

What you will bring

- A Bachelor of Civil Engineering, or an equivalent qualification recognised in Australia, completed or due to be completed shortly.
- Graduate status or up to two years of relevant experience.
- Strong communication skills, the ability to prepare clear technical documentation and interpret drawings, specifications and standards.
- Good organisation, attention to detail and the ability to manage priorities and deadlines.
- A proactive, safety-conscious and collaborative approach, with a genuine interest in airports, aviation and infrastructure.
- Australian working rights that permit full-time employment.
- A current Australian driver licence, or the ability to obtain one promptly.
- The ability to work from JJR’s Sydney office and travel to project sites, generally for three to five days interstate and occasionally internationally.

Highly regarded

- Exposure to Civil 3D, 12d Model, AutoCAD, GIS or pavement and civil design software.
- Site experience in civil infrastructure, transport, aviation, pavements, drainage or land development.
- Awareness of airport engineering, aviation safety, CASA, ICAO or Defence requirements, plus a White Card or willingness to obtain one.
- The ability to obtain aviation, Defence or other project-specific clearances if required.
