This senior leadership role works closely with the Mawsons General Management Team and reports directly to the Executive General Manager, Health & Safety, Adbri. As a key contributor to the organisation’s strategic direction, the role will provide leadership, expertise and guidance on all aspects of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS), ensuring WHS initiatives are aligned with and support Mawsons’ operational objectives and long-term business goals. The position will play a critical role in embedding a proactive safety culture, influencing decision-making at an executive level, and identifying opportunities where WHS can enhance operational performance, drive continuous improvement, and contribute to sustainable business success across the organisation.
The Health & Safety Manager Mawsons is based in Bendigo and has a team of 7 across regional Victoria and NSW.
Duties include:
- Leading the development and delivery of the Mawsons Health and Safety strategy
- Driving a strong, visible and proactive safety culture across all operational locations
- Providing expert advice to the Mawsons General Management Team on WHS matters
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant Victorian and NSW WHS legislation and industry requirements
- Leading and developing a high performing WHS team
- Overseeing critical risk management programs across all divisions
- Managing regulatory relationships and coordinating responses to incident and enforcement matters
- Leading investigations into significant incidents and ensuring lessons learned are embedded across the business
- Driving continuous improvement in safety systems, reporting, training and workforce engagement
- Overseeing contract management, wellbeing initiatives and return to work programs
- Monitoring and reporting on key safety performance indicators and organisation trends
Essential Criteria
- Tertiary qualification in Work Health & safety or a related discipline
- Extensive leadership experience in Work Health & Safety within a high risk industry such as construction materials, quarrying, mining, manufacturing, transport
- Proven ability to influence executive leaders and operational teams
- Strong knowledge of Victorian and NSW WHS legislation and regulatory frameworks
- Experience leading organisational safety transformation and cultural change initiatives
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and coaching skills
- Experience managing multisite operations across geographically dispersed locations
- A current driver’s licence and willingness to undertake regular regional travel
