Information Security Analyst - Wellington, Permament Full time

Join the Ministry's Security Operations Centre in one of two permanent Information Security Analyst roles. You will help protect our people, information, systems and services by monitoring security activity, investigating alerts and requests, and supporting an effective response to cyber security incidents.
This is a hands-on operational role with broad exposure across Microsoft security tooling, email and endpoint security, identity and access, incident response and security administration. You will work alongside experienced analysts and specialists in a collaborative team that shares knowledge and supports ongoing development.
- Monitor and triage alerts from Microsoft Sentinel, Defender and other security channels.
- Investigate phishing, malware, suspicious access, lost devices and related security events.
- Manage day-to-day security incidents and requests using approved procedures and playbooks.
- Document findings, actions and outcomes clearly, and escalate complex matters with evidence.
- Provide practical security guidance and help improve team processes, detections and automation.

- Bring experience in security operations, incident response or a closely related technical role.
- Apply structured analysis to alerts, logs and technical evidence without jumping to conclusions.
- Communicate clearly and build effective relationships with technical and business stakeholders.
- Show initiative, sound judgement, attention to detail and a strong commitment to learning.
- Show commitment to te Tiriti o Waitangi and an understanding of Te Ao Māori.
Experience with Microsoft Sentinel, Microsoft Defender, Entra ID, ServiceNow,
Qualys or similar security tools would be useful. Relevant tertiary study, industry certifications or equivalent practical experience will also be valued, together with a commitment to ongoing professional development.

Utu ā-tau/Salary The appointing salary for this role will be between $88,455 and $113,639 based on skills and experience.
