Barnardos Australia is seeking a dedicated Intake Worker to join our Family Connect and Support team in Marrickville, 2204 . This is a part-time, permanent opportunity to be part of a values-led organisation committed to making a real difference in the lives of children and families.

This is a part-time role, working 3 days per week (18 hours per week).

About the RoleAs a Intake Worker, you will:

- Serve as the first point of contact for the program and deliver a safe, trauma-informed intake experience for all clients.
- Conduct initial assessments to identify client needs and risks.
- Determine suitability based on assessment outcomes.
- Ensure timely and high-quality communication with all external stakeholders.
- Offer appropriate resources and alternative referral pathways when referrals are unsuitable.
- Maintain high-quality data entry standards, in line with data reporting obligations to DSS Data Exchange (DEX).
- Use Barnardos’ case management system (B-Hive) to manage client and referral data.

You’ll join a collaborative and supportive team delivering high-quality, trauma-informed services that uphold child safety, cultural safety, and family-led practice.

Skills and Experience :

- Minimum Certificate 4 Community Services or related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience and skills in information provision, intake, assessment and referral for families in need of support services.
- Excellent understanding of child protection issues and client vulnerabilities such as drug and alcohol use, domestic violence, mental health issues, and the impact of trauma and the effect on child behaviour and development.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated computer competency and experience using electronic case management tools.




- Ability to relate respectfully to people from diverse backgrounds, using trauma-informed approaches.
- Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families, and communities, including a robust understanding of cultural safety, self-determination, and the historical and contemporary factors that impact Aboriginal peoples.

What’s on Offer: Base salary: $39.34 per hour + 12% superannuation

Salary packaging: Up to $15,860 tax-free (general living expenses)

Meal & entertainment packaging: Additional $2,650 tax-free per FBT year
