About the role The Laboratory Technician role is responsible for the efficient processing of samples in the laboratory to ensure the instruments are operating at full capacity. This includes receiving samples, establishing project structures, and identifying appropriate sample preparation processes. This position requires meticulous attention to detail and adherence to AMI laboratory protocols.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a solid understanding of the entire sample preparation process and multi-task to ensure the continuous supply of prepared core and blocks for instruments within the Automated Mineralogy Incubator
- Undertake sample receival administration including accounting for samples received, creating entries in existing AMI projects within Salesforce, and establishing a sample preparation folder, worksheet and CSV file with project structure and measurements
- Prepare sample resin blocks following AMI sample preparation methodology and procedure including drill core cleaning, sample cutting or coring, splitting, weighing, mounting, labelling, backfilling, polishing and carbon coating
- Subject to business requirements and individual skill levels, undertake more advanced responsibilities including deagglomeration and graphite adding, core and mineral specimen preparation, gravity separation, operate TIMA and load samples and program for analysis, prepare samples for XRD analysis and operate the XRD, and operate core scanning equipment

- Ensure that administrative and record-keeping tasks are undertaken in a timely and effective manner

- Perform ad hoc duties as reasonably requested including covering for colleagues during absence
About you
- Previous experience in a laboratory setting, particularly in sample preparation and analysis is desirable
- Previous experience in operating and maintaining laboratory equipment is desirable
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures and safety protocols
- High level of accuracy in tasks like weighing, labelling, and record-keeping
- Dedication to maintaining high-quality standards in sample preparation
- Works well within a team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment
- Efficiently manages time to meet deadlines
- Effective communication with the ability to convey information clearly and concisely
