Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Lactation Consultant to join the Women's and Children's division.

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne's rapidly growing outer north.

Services are provided through our six main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals Centres and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.

About the Role:

The lactation consultant is responsible for promoting, supporting, and encouraging new mums during their breastfeeding experience. The lactation consultant not only provides educational information, but also works with families to troubleshoot and implement their feeding strategies for their newborns. They are members of a multidisciplinary team that collaborates closely with midwives, nurses, doctors, and families throughout the Women's and Children's division.





This position is responsible for:

- To promote, enhance, and provide best practice that is women-centered, empowering, and culturally safe.
- To promote, enhance, and provide best practice that is women- centered, empowering, and culturally protected.
- To educate and support midwives, doctors and mothercraft nurses about lactation support and the management of common breastfeeding issues.
- To serve as a resource/educational source for evidence-based baby feeding information, as well as to support and assist personnel in increasing their knowledge and abilities in this area

To be successful in this role you will have:

- Current Registration as Registered Nurse or Midwife, Division 1, with AHPRA.
- Current International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant [IBCLC].
- Must be computer literate, able to access and utilise all Northern Health IT systems which are relevant to completion of duties.
