Primary objective

Provide technical leadership for a defined section of the Gardens, coordinating staff, vehicles and equipment to deliver high-

quality horticultural outcomes

Key duties and responsibilities

- Lead the horticultural care, maintenance and day-to-day work program of an assigned garden section, ensuring high standards of presentation and horticultural practice are achieved.

- Lead and support a small team of Horticulturist staff on a day-to-day basis, providing technical guidance and on-the-

ground direction to ensure work is completed safely and to required standards.




- Contribute to routine operational records such as maintaining work plans and noting completed works
- Provide specialist horticultural advice and practical support across the Gardens, sharing expertise and assisting with

priority projects or complex horticultural tasks as required.
- Work with other Lead Horticulturists and the Curator Manager to support planning of work programs, resource use and

equipment maintenance.
- Follow and promote safe work practices in line with NTG policies and procedures.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated horticultural experience in botanic gardens, or similar landscapes.
2. Experience supervising staff in day-to-day work, including allocating tasks and supporting safe work practices.
3. Demonstrated ability to work hands-on alongside staff while providing practical leadership and maintaining high

standards of horticultural practice.
- Ability to plan and organise work within a defined area, including efficient use of resources, equipment and materials.
- Good communication skills working in a teamwork environment, with the ability to support others and work collaboratively.
- Understanding of Work Health and Safety practices and ability to complete basic records and routine administrative tasks related to work activities.
- Current NT Driver Licence (Class C) or ability to obtain one.

Desirable

1. Qualification in horticulture or a related field.
2. Specialist skills and experience such as propagation, arboriculture, irrigation or turf management. Further information The position is required to work occasional weekends and public holidays on a rostered basis and, as a full time role, is

eligible for Northern Territory Government Public Duty Allowance (PDO) entitlements in accordance with applicable agreements.
