Role Description The Leading Hand Carpenter role is a full-time, on-site position based in Melbourne, VIC. This role involves overseeing day-to-day carpentry operations, including timber framing, structural installations, and general carpentry tasks on active building sites.

The Leading Hand

Carpenter will coordinate a small team, allocate tasks, review work quality, and ensure projects are completed according to plans, timelines, and safety standards.

Responsibilities include reading and interpreting drawings, setting out framing, using hand and power tools, maintaining site safety and cleanliness, and liaising with supervisors, other trades, and clients as required. The role also involves mentoring junior carpenters and apprentices, monitoring material usage,



and providing input on improving site efficiency and construction processes.

Qualifications

- Trade qualifications in carpentry (Certificate III in Carpentry or equivalent) and demonstrated experience in timber framing and structural carpentry.
- Strong leadership and team coordination skills, including the ability to supervise, mentor, and support carpenters and apprentices on-site.
- Ability to read and interpret building plans, specifications, and measurements with high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Solid understanding of construction site safety practices, relevant regulations, and safe operation of hand and power tools.
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with site managers, trades, and clients.
- Reliable, organized, and able to manage time and workloads to meet project deadlines in a fast-paced site environment.
- Current White Card (construction induction), driver’s license, and access to reliable transport; own tools are highly regarded.
- Previous experience as a leading hand or senior carpenter on framing projects in Melbourne or similar environments is an advantage.
