As CCR continues to grow, we are seeking a Legal & Contracts Consultant to join our Sydney team and support a diverse portfolio of construction and infrastructure matters.
The Role
Working within CCR’s Legal & Contracts team, you will assist with a variety of tasks such as contract reviews, Security of Payment matters, adjudication applications and complex construction claims.
This opportunity would suit someone with a legal background who also understands how construction projects are delivered and administered in practice. Admission as an Australian lawyer is not essential; however, candidates must have the legal knowledge, construction experience and written capability required to contribute effectively to complex contractual matters.
You will work closely with CCR’s legal, commercial, claims, planning and quantum professionals, as well as client project teams and external legal advisers.
Key Responsibilities
- Reviewing construction contracts, subcontracts, consultancy agreements and associated commercial documentation
- Identifying key contractual obligations, risks, entitlements and notice requirements
- Assisting with the preparation and review of payment claims, payment schedules and adjudication applications under Security of Payment legislation
- Drafting contractual notices, correspondence, claim submissions and dispute-related documents
- Supporting the commercial and claims teams with complex variations, extensions of time, delay, disruption and other contractual claims
- Reviewing project records and evidence to help establish contractual and factual positions
- Undertaking legal and contractual research across construction-related matters
- Working with clients, project teams, legal advisers and technical specialists to develop clear and defensible positions
- Contributing to mediation, arbitration, litigation and expert-led dispute engagements where required
Core Competencies
- Tertiary qualifications in Law, Legal Studies or a related discipline
- Practical experience within the construction, engineering or infrastructure sectors
- Experience reviewing and interpreting construction contracts
- Knowledge of Security of Payment legislation and the adjudication process
- Experience preparing or supporting contractual claims and dispute submissions
- Strong written communication, drafting and analytical skills
- Ability to review detailed project information and identify the key contractual and evidentiary issues
- Commercially practical approach and an understanding of live project environments
- Ability to work autonomously while collaborating across multidisciplinary teams
- Australian construction experience is strongly preferred
Experience in contract administration, engineering, quantity surveying, project management or commercial management would be highly regarded. Benefits of Working with CCR
