Primary objective

Manage, lead and develop the Occupational Therapy Department at RDPH to ensure high quality, efficient, culturally appropriate and effective Occupational Therapy inpatient and outpatient services, and to provide leadership and support to Occupational Therapists employed within the Top End Region.

Context statement The Top End Allied Health region provides integrated allied health services in a variety of settings including acute, sub-acute care, primary health care, aged care and mental health.



Currently seeking applicants for an Occupational Therapy Manager in Acute Services. This position will require the applicant to work within an extended hours service model, which may include weekends.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Lead and manage a team of professionals with responsibility for staff recruitment and retention, induction, professional development,

performance management, continuous quality improvement, and operational planning.
1. Promote best practice through Continuous Quality Improvement activities, including effective service monitoring, auditing, review

and reporting activities, and the development of Occupational Therapy resources, including practice policies and clinical guidelines.
- Ensure a coordinated approach to achieving departmental, hospital and organisational objectives, including the development of a business plan, effective budget and cost centre management, and procurement of necessary equipment and resources.
- Ensure the development and delivery of culturally appropriate strategies, resources and services for people from a diverse range of cultures.
- Prepare reports, guidelines and correspondence pertaining to the performance, service delivery and management of the Department.
- Maintain effective and active collaborative partnerships with government agencies and other key stakeholders at local, Territory and

National levels.
- Follow defined service quality standards, and work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.




- Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Degree in Occupational Therapy and registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, and an NT drivers’

licence.
1. Significant postgraduate experience in the field of Occupational Therapy and hospital safety and quality, especially in the acute clinical

setting.
1. Proven management, service planning and leadership skills, with the ability to facilitate team functioning to achieve outcomes, in a

demanding work workplace within a climate of organisational change.
1. Demonstrated highly developed written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate with influence, and

supervise and manage workplace relations.
- Demonstrated ability to provide an innovative, strategic and flexible approach to service development and delivery through facilitation and implementation of continuous quality improvement, projects and adherence to legislative standards.
- Demonstrated experience in working with people of diverse cultures, particularly with Indigenous Australians, with demonstrated achievements in improving health outcomes.

Desirable

- Post-graduate qualification in a relevant field such as a clinical specialty or management or a demonstrated willingness to engage in study towards a relevant qualification
