About the role

Calder Care Services are seeking dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Support Workers to join a care team for a male participant in the Wyndhamvale area. In this casual role, you will play a vital part in providing care and support to this participant, empowering them to live independently and actively participate in their community.

Key responsibilities

- Assist the participant with daily activities such as household tasks, meal prepping and going on daily walks. *The walks may take place for 1-2 hours. Please do not apply for this role if this is going to be an issue.
- Provide emotional support and build a positive skilled relationship
- Facilitate social, recreational, and therapeutic activities to promote client wellbeing. For example, access to community activities; such as going out for lunches/dinners, running errands, going to the local pools etc.
- Advocate for client needs and liaise with healthcare professionals and support networks
- Maintain accurate client records and documentation
- Adhere to organisational policies, procedures, and safety standards

About you

- Experience in mental health or disability support work
- Ability to work with behaviours of concern and adhere to and understand a mental health safety plan
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with clear English
- Excellent computer navigation skills
- Flexible availability to suit client needs with shifts varying from daytime, evening and weekend shifts, minimum 4 hours extending up to 8 or 10 hours in duration
- Compassionate, patient, and empathetic nature
- Relevant qualifications such as Certificate III or IV in Individual Support (CHC33021),



Certificate IV in Mental Health (CHC43315), Diploma of Mental Health (CHC53315) or equivalent
- Experience in trauma informed-care is highly desired
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
- Valid driver's license and access to a reliable and insured vehicle. Please note that participant has a small dog who comes along with him to outings. Before applying for this role, please be aware that the dog will need to come inside your vehicle at times.
- Must hold an NDIS Workers Screening Check and valid Victorian Police Check (validity within past 3 years)
