If you're a Metal Fabricator or Boilermaker who actually cares what the finished product looks like, this is probably going to be more interesting than your average welding job.
We’re recruiting for an established manufacturer in Prestons who are looking for an experienced Metal Fabricator / Welder to join their team.
And this isn't just sitting in a bay pumping out the same welds all day.
The work is varied.
The finish matters.
And a lot of what you build is going to be seen.
You'll be fabricating architectural staircases, balustrades and associated metalwork, working from drawings and taking components through fabrication, welding and finishing before they eventually head out to site.
This is proper fabrication work
You'll be working across:
- Mild steel
- Stainless steel
- Aluminium
- MIG welding
- TIG welding
- Cutting and preparation
- Bending and forming
- Grinding
- Polishing
- Satin and mirror finishes
You need to be comfortable looking at a drawing, understanding what needs to be made and actually building it. Not just welding something someone else has already jigged up for you.
The business puts a lot of emphasis on accuracy, finish and presentation, particularly because much of the work is exposed architectural metalwork.
If you've spent your career taking pride in getting something square, clean and finished properly, you'll understand why that matters.
It's workshop and site
Most of your work will revolve around fabrication, but this isn't a role where you'll never see where your work ends up. There is also some onsite installation of fabricated components and balustrades, including assisting with glass balustrades where required.
So ideally you're someone who is comfortable both on the tools in the workshop and getting out onto site when required.
They're looking for a tradesman
This isn't an apprenticeship or an entry-level welding role. They're looking for someone who already has the foundations.
Ideally you'll have
- Certificate III in Fabrication
- Completed apprenticeship
- Trade or welding qualification
- At least 1 year working as a qualified tradesman
- Solid MIG and TIG welding experience
- Experience with light to medium gauge fabrication
- Ability to read and interpret drawings
- White Card
- Current driver's licence
- Good attention to detail
- Pride in the quality of your work
If you've come from architectural metalwork, balustrades, staircases, stainless fabrication, aluminium fabrication or quality custom fabrication, we'd be particularly interested in speaking with you.
The hours are good too
Monday – Thursday: 6:30am – 3:00pm Friday: 6:30am – 2:15pm
Early start.
Early finish.
And you're done even earlier on Friday.
They're looking for someone for the long term
This is a full-time permanent position, not labour hire, not a short-term contract and not a shutdown. They want someone who can come in, become part of the team and take ownership of the quality of the work they're putting out.
There's also an opportunity to help support and mentor apprentices as you settle into the role.
If you're an experienced Metal Fabricator, Boilermaker or First Class Welder and you're starting to wonder what else is out there, this is absolutely one worth having a conversation about.
