Payroll Officer
OVERALL, PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The Payroll Officer is responsible for supporting the accurate and timely preparation, processing and administration of Barker's fortnightly payroll for all employees and casual staff.
Working closely with the Payroll Manager and Senior Payroll Officer, the role provides payroll administration support, maintains employee payroll records, assists with compliance requirements, and responds to payroll-
related enquiries while always ensuring confidentiality and accuracy.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The Payroll Officer role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
- Assist with the preparation and processing of the fortnightly payroll.
- Maintain employee payroll records, including entering new employees and updating employee
master data.
- Process timesheets, including manual timesheet entries where required.
- Support the Senior Payroll Officer with termination payments, long service leave calculations and
other payroll adjustments.
- Prepare and distribute payroll reports as required.
- Assist with payroll reconciliations and data checking.
- Maintain accurate payroll filing and record-keeping systems.
- Support onboarding, contract variation and offboarding administration, particularly during peak
periods throughout December and January.
- Assist with superannuation reconciliations and uploads.
- Assist with quarterly contractor superannuation reconciliations and reporting.
- Process monthly union fee deductions and reconciliations.
- Assist in the interpretation and application of payroll-related Awards, Enterprise Agreements and
employment conditions.
- Respond to payroll enquiries from employees in a timely, professional and customer-focused
manner.
- Reconcile leave balances, calculations and employee entitlements.
- Support annual remuneration reviews and salary increases, including CMEA annual increases.
- Maintain government agency documentation and reporting requirements, including PRODA.
- Attend regular meetings with Human Resources and other stakeholders as required.
- Undertake other payroll and administrative duties as directed by the Payroll Manager or Senior
Payroll Officer. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE ESSENTIAL TO THE JOB
Technical
- Minimum of 3-5 years' payroll administration experience.
People & Culture
- Sound understanding of payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation and employment obligations.
- Solid numeracy and Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience interpreting Awards, Enterprise Agreements and employment conditions.
- Experience using payroll and HRIS systems.
- Experience with Aurion and/or Clipboard payroll systems highly regarded.
- Experience within the education sector is desirable.
