Principal Consultant - Power & Energy Advisory

Sydney or Melbourne | Commercial advisory | Renewable energy and BESS Uplift Recruitment is partnering with a growing specialist energy-markets business to appoint a Principal Consultant to its Commercial Advisory practice.

This is an opportunity for an experienced energy professional to lead meaningful client work across Australia’s energy transition, advising renewable developers, investors, energy users and market participants.

You will combine a strong understanding of the National Electricity Market with commercial judgement and client leadership, helping clients turn complex market change into clear commercial decisions.

The opportunity

As Principal Consultant, you will lead advisory engagements from opportunity through to delivery. You will work across renewable energy, battery storage and broader power-market issues, translating complex commercial and market information into practical, decision-ready advice. You will sit between senior leaders and the delivery team: leading client relationships and projects, guiding Analysts and Consultants and helping convert emerging client opportunities into high-quality advisory engagements.

This is not a pure technical engineering role, nor a pure business-development role. It will suit someone who enjoys solving commercial energy problems, delivering strong client outcomes and building trusted relationships.

Key responsibilities

- Lead commercial advisory engagements across power, renewable energy and BESS
- Advise clients on market strategy, project commercialisation, asset value and investment decisions
- Translate complex energy-market issues into clear recommendations and client-ready outputs
- Lead project workstreams from scoping through to delivery
- Work with renewable developers, investors, retailers, energy users and other market participants
- Support client development, proposals and conversion of advisory opportunities
- Mentor and guide Analysts and Consultants across project teams




- Contribute to thought leadership and the growth of the broader advisory offering
- Work collaboratively with advisory, platform and transaction teams to deliver integrated client solutions

About you

You will likely bring:
- Seven or more years of relevant experience in Australia’s National Electricity Market
- Experience working with, or advising, utility-scale renewable-energy and BESS developers
- Strong understanding of the renewable project-development and commercialisation lifecycle
- Commercial exposure to areas such as PPAs, offtake, energy procurement, financial close, project finance, investment decisions, asset strategy or energy-market transactions
- Experience leading client projects, workstreams or strategic commercial initiatives
- Strong stakeholder-management and written communication skills
- Confidence working with senior clients and presenting clear recommendations
- Financial modelling capability, with strong Excel and PowerPoint skills
- A relevant qualification in finance, engineering, economics, business or a related discipline

Experience advising wholesale electricity buyers, retailers or large commercial and industrial energy users will be highly regarded. Exposure to Western Australia’s Wholesale Electricity Market is also beneficial, but not essential.
