About Our Client
Our client is an established and growing business specialising in HVAC and air distribution solutions, with a strong presence across Australia and New Zealand.
With an established product portfolio, experienced technical capability and significant opportunities for further growth, the business is looking to strengthen its commercial approach to product management and expand its market presence.
You'll join a collaborative environment with access to experienced engineering and product specialists, while having genuine ownership to shape the future direction and commercial performance of the product portfolio.
About the Role
As Product Manager, you will take ownership of the Grilles, Registers & Diffusers product portfolio, combining technical understanding with solid commercial and market-focused thinking.
This is an opportunity to build and strengthen the product management function, from developing product roadmaps and pricing strategies through to identifying new market opportunities, improving margins and making informed decisions about where to grow, maintain or rationalise the portfolio.
You'll work closely with engineering, sales, marketing, manufacturing, supply chain and customers to turn market insights into commercially successful products.
Importantly, you won't be stepping into an environment where every process, data point and pathway has already been defined. You'll have the autonomy and support to improve the foundations, introduce greater commercial clarity and establish the frameworks that will guide future growth.
This role will suit someone who enjoys building structure, making decisions and creating tangible commercial impact rather than simply managing an established product portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full product lifecycle, from concept and new product development through to growth, rationalisation and phase-out.
- Lead the NPD stage-gate process and coordinate new product development across relevant functions.
- Develop product roadmaps based on market opportunities, customer requirements and commercial performance.
- Develop and implement pricing strategies and discount frameworks, with a strong focus on margins and product profitability.
- Analyse product costs, profitability and performance to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Identify new product, customer and channel opportunities across existing and adjacent markets.
- Work closely with engineering, R&D;, manufacturing, sales and supply chain teams to bring product initiatives to market.
- Analyse market trends, competitors and customer insights to guide product and portfolio decisions.
- Develop product specifications, sales guides, product information and customer-facing materials.
- Support and train sales teams with product expertise, technical knowledge and customer insights.
- Engage with customers and industry stakeholders to understand market requirements and identify opportunities.
- Improve product availability, supply chain decisions and overall portfolio performance.
About You To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:
- Experience in product management, product marketing, category management or a similar commercially focused product role.
- A background in HVAC, building products, industrial products, manufacturing or another technical B2B environment.
- Strong commercial understanding of pricing, margins, costs, profitability and product performance.
- Experience managing products across the full product lifecycle.
- The ability to analyse market trends, customer needs and commercial data to identify opportunities.
- Technical curiosity and the ability to understand and communicate technical products.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders without direct authority.
- A proactive approach and confidence working in an environment where you may need to establish processes rather than inherit them.
- The ability to balance strategic thinking with a willingness to remain hands-on and execute.
- A qualification in marketing, engineering or a related discipline would be advantageous but is not essential.
What You'll Build in Your First Year
During your first 12 months, you will have the opportunity to:
- Take ownership of the GRD portfolio and establish clear product priorities.
- Review product profitability, pricing, costs and market positioning.
- Identify and implement quick-win opportunities across pricing, stock availability and the existing product range.
- Build a structured product roadmap informed by customer needs, commercial performance and market opportunities.
- Strengthen customer and sales feedback channels to build a clearer understanding of market demand.
- Establish a more structured approach to new product development, product lifecycle management and portfolio decision-making.
- Identify opportunities to grow through new products, customers, channels and adjacent markets.
Your Measures of Success
Success in the role will be demonstrated through:
- Stronger margins: Improved product profitability and greater pricing discipline.
- Smarter portfolio decisions: Clear recommendations on which products to build, grow, maintain, rationalise or phase out.
- A clear roadmap: A practical 3-5 year product strategy aligned with market and customer opportunities.
- Better customer insight: Quantified customer feedback and market intelligence informing product decisions.
- Greater commercial clarity: Improved visibility of product costs, margins and profitability.
- Quick wins delivered: Tangible improvements across stock availability, service levels and commercial performance.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is an opportunity to do more than maintain an existing product range. You'll have genuine ownership and the ability to influence how the portfolio develops commercially, while being supported by experienced technical and engineering resources.
For someone who enjoys identifying opportunities, improving how things are done and seeing the commercial impact of their decisions, there is considerable scope to make your mark.
As the business and portfolio continue to grow, there is also genuine potential for the position to broaden across additional product categories and develop into a larger product management leadership role.
If you bring a balance of technical understanding and commercial thinking, along with the initiative to build, improve and take ownership of a product portfolio, I'd be interested in speaking with you.
