Mater Research are looking for a Research Assistant to join the team! This is a 12-month fixed-term role in a part-time capacity at 19 hours per week. It will be based at our South Brisbane campus.

The Research Assistant position is a key research role as part of the HOPE study – Healthy Outcomes for babies and mothers with Prenatal methamphetamine Exposure Initiative team within the Mater Mother and Baby Research Program. The role is integral to the success of this research initiative. It is expected that the occupant will fully participate in the success of the initiative and of the Mater by living the core values in word and deed, adhering to the Mater Code of Conduct as well as exceeding in their provision of neonatal research, quality improvement, and clinical practice improvement.

Salary range: $43.78 - $47.18 (MRI Admin L6) per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

- Support day-to-day coordination of the HOPE Study
- Assist with implementation and ongoing delivery of research activities according to approved study protocols.
- Coordinate project meetings and maintain action registers.
- Prepare reports, study summaries and project documentation as required.
- Monitor study timelines and support achievement of project milestones.
- Liaise with clinicians, researchers, consumers and support services to facilitate project activities.
- Support collaboration between Mater Research and Mater Health teams




- Contribute to the preparation of ethics approvals, research documents, grant applications, manuscripts, and other scientific publications as required.
- Maintain investigator site files and essential regulatory documentation.
- Support study compliance with Good Clinical Practice, NHMRC requirements and Mater Research policies.
- Participate in research monitoring, audit and quality improvement activities.
- Contribute to meetings, presentation, and other related events.
- Ensure that study data are organised, securely stored and maintain privacy and confidentiality,
- Assist in identification and screening of eligible research participants.
- Coordinate participant recruitment, enrolment and follow-up activities.
- Support informed consent processes for approved research studies and biobank activities.
- Provide study information to participants and families in a qualified and compassionate manner.
- Maintain study screening, recruitment and retention logs.
- Ensure research participant confidentiality is maintained at all times
- Collect retrospective and prospective clinical research data in accordance with approved study protocols.
- Perform medical record review and collect study data.
- Enter, manage and maintain research datasets using REDCap and other approved systems.
- Conduct data validation, reconciliation and quality assurance activities.
- Assist with preparation of datasets for statistical and health economic analyses.
- Maintain accurate, complete and auditable research records.
- Ensure compliance with data governance, privacy and confidentiality requirements.




- Maintain specimen inventories and associated documentation.

About you

Essential:

- Degree qualification in health science, biomedical science, public health, nursing, psychology, science or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to work within clinical or health research environments.
- Understanding of research governance, ethics and confidentiality requirements.
- Experience in data collection, database management and record keeping.
- High level computer literacy including Microsoft Office applications and data management systems.
- Demonstrated organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary research team.
- Demonstrated commitment to research quality, integrity and continuous improvement.

Desired:

- Previous experience in clinical or health research, particularly in neonatal or associated field
- Experience using REDCap or similar clinical research databases.
- Experience in research studies or clinical registries.
- Experience supporting ethics and governance submissions.
- Understanding of Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
- Experience contributing to scientific publications or grant applications.
