Primary objective

As a member of Big Rivers Regional Services you will coordinate and implement secondary provision to small remote schools across the Big Rivers Region. With a focus on pathways, curriculum delivery including VET, distance education and integrated studies, to improve the practice and delivery of secondary education within these schools.

Context statement

Big Rivers Region Regional Services provides a range of services to strategically support remote small schools to maximise outcomes for students in a culturally responsive way.



This includes services and support for quality teaching and learning, secondary provision, early childhood quality and integration, and policy coordination.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Ensure the delivery of quality secondary teaching and learning programs across all small remote schools that align to evidence-

based research, whole school approaches and effective pedagogies that meet the needs of students
- Lead the development and implementation of curriculum and assessment plans and requirements in line with Departmental policy to meet student needs required for secondary provision.
- Enact the Region and Schools vision for secondary provision in consultation with communities to develop a shared set of high expectations of both students and teachers
- Build educators instructional leadership skills so they can improve classroom instruction, student engagement and capable and independent learners.
- Collaborate with schools to develop relationships with families and community groups to promote schools and their role in the wider community.
- Provide advice and support to the Principals and Director of Remote Schools on secondary educational matters to achieve educational outcomes and the goals for students,



families and schools.
- Lead and implement context-based pathways, Vocational Education Training (VET) programs and opportunities across schools.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Successful recent teaching experience in a secondary context.
2. Excellent knowledge and comprehensive experience of secondary school curriculum, including VET delivery and creative

ways to provide secondary options in remote contexts.
- Proven ability to lead and develop staff, with a focus on achieving strategic targets and improved student outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to build a shared culture of high expectations, while developing and maintaining effective interpersonal and cross-cultural relationships within and beyond the school community including the establishment of networks.
- Proven ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures to build and maintain effective relationships.
- Proven ability to effectively develop partnerships and interagency relationships to improve student learning outcomes.

Desirable

1. Remote teaching experience
2. EALD (English as an additional language) knowledge and teaching experience

Further information Registration or capacity to be registered with the Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory and holder of a Working with Children Clearance Notice. The successful applicant will need to provide these requirements prior to commencement.

Office-based conditions apply to this position. Travel is required on small aircrafts and 4WD travel.
