We are seeking a Senior Engineer - Commissioning to join our Onboarding & Connections team. This role will suit an experienced engineer who is passionate about Australia's energy transition and enjoys solving complex challenges, influencing outcomes, and delivering projects that shape the future of the National Electricity Market.

Within our System Design division, the Onboarding & Connections team plays a critical role in enabling the transition to a cleaner energy future. We partner with industry to connect new renewable generation and storage projects to the National Electricity Market (NEM), helping bring essential infrastructure online safely and reliably. With more than 160GW of new generation expected to connect over the coming decades, you'll join a collaborative team working on some of Australia's most significant energy projects.
About The Role
This is an opportunity to make a real impact on Australia's energy future while growing your technical leadership and industry influence. As a Senior Engineer - Commissioning, you'll lead the commissioning of renewable projects, working alongside developers, network businesses,
technology providers, government agencies and industry experts to deliver successful outcomes.
Reporting to the Manager - Commissioning, this role can be based in any Australian state, with flexible working arrangements available.
What You Will Be Doing
You'll be instrumental in commissioning renewable energy projects, helping bring recent generation and storage technologies safely into the National Electricity Market. Working closely with developers, network service providers and industry stakeholders, you'll solve complex technical challenges, support the integration of technologies including wind, solar, battery storage, hydro and hydrogen, and contribute to initiatives that improve the connections experience across the industry. You'll also build strong stakeholder relationships and mentor engineers across the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the commissioning of renewable generation and energy infrastructure projects through to successful operation.
- Provide expert advice across commissioning, registration, power system performance and system strength.
- Partner with developers, network service providers and industry stakeholders to resolve complex technical challenges and deliver successful project outcomes.
- Help drive technical decision-making, ensuring outcomes are evidence-based, practical, transparent and aligned with NEM requirements.
- Contribute to industry and regulatory initiatives that support the integration of renewable generation and storage technologies.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers and project stakeholders,
supporting capability development across the team.
- Build trusted relationships across industry and contribute to AEMO's reputation as a valued technical partner.
What You Will Bring To The Role
- Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related power systems discipline.
- Experience in commissioning renewable energy, transmission or other large-scale energy infrastructure projects.
- Sound knowledge of generator commissioning, performance testing, power system behaviour and NEM requirements.
- Strong experience with both PSSE and PSCAD
- Experience with hold point testing, R2 compliance and model validation activities.
- Proven ability to solve complex technical challenges and deliver practical outcomes.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence diverse audiences.
