Microservices & AI Technical Lead – Federal Government Role
Our client, a Federal Government department, is seeking an experienced Microservices & AI Technical Lead to support a major business application transformation program. This role will provide technical leadership across the establishment of enterprise microservices and event-driven architecture foundations while driving the adoption of AI-enabled engineering practices throughout the software delivery lifecycle. The successful candidate will influence architecture and engineering decisions, guide platform modernisation initiatives, and build organisational capability through knowledge transfer and engineering excellence.
Skills and experience required to perform this role include:
- Extensive experience designing, implementing and governing cloud-native, microservices and event-driven architectures within complex enterprise environments.
- Demonstrated expertise in AI engineering and AI-enabled solution delivery, including enterprise AI capabilities, semantic search, machine learning solutions and responsible AI practices.
- Strong software and platform engineering capability, including modern development frameworks, DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, observability and security-by-design principles.
- Proven ability to lead enterprise technology modernisation and transformation programs, providing technical direction and influencing strategic architecture decisions.
- Demonstrated success delivering improvements in platform reliability, security, scalability and engineering maturity.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement, communication and leadership skills with experience working closely with senior executives, multidisciplinary teams and delivery partners.
- Experience translating complex business requirements into practical technology outcomes and strategic roadmaps.
- Experience establishing engineering governance frameworks and promoting engineering excellence and continuous improvement practices.
- Experience with container platforms such as Kubernetes, OpenShift, AKS, EKS or GKE, including automation, governance and workload management.
- Knowledge of cloud platform modernisation, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), platform engineering and enterprise-scale automation practices.
- Experience leading delivery within Agile environments, including coaching distributed teams and fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and capability uplift.
Location: ACT (Hybrid working arrangements)
Duration: 12 months initial contract with 2 x 12-month extension options
Clearance: Must be able to obtain AGSVA Baseline Clearance
