If you're a Site Engineer who's good at the job but stuck on work that isn't taking you anywhere new, this is a clean step up.
A 21-level residential tower on the Gold Coast with ground-floor retail. Underway now, running through to early 2029. You'd be on it from early, on a repetitive floor cycle with a largely new local subcontractor base — which means the standard you set in the first few cycles is the standard you get for the remaining eighteen.
The client is a South-East Queensland builder-developer. They find the site, design it, build it, sell it, then look after the people living in it. There's no third-party client to hand over to and nobody else carrying the defect list. That's why they've put a dedicated engineer on site rather than leaving it to the foremen to fit in around everything else.
THE ROLE
Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager, working alongside the Project Manager and the site team:
- Work site-specific details, construction methodology and design coordination with the design team before trades start, not after
- Own submittals and shop drawings — precast, balustrades and screens, joinery — through to consultant and client approval
- Raise RFIs and drive them to closeout
- Support the foremen on sequencing: structure, services rough-ins, follow-on access
- Source out-of-scope and time-critical items so work fronts don't sit blocked
- Run the inspection and ITP program progressively through Procore, auditing trade works against the drawings, specs and standards
- Plan the run to CoC and PC — testing and commissioning, certifier and council inspections
- Coordinate the defects program through pre-settlement and handover
WHO THEY'LL HIRE They care less about a matching CV than about whether you can do the work and fit the team. The engineer they hired into the equivalent role on their current project came out of civil.
- Site engineering experience — civil, commercial or residential all count
- A carpentry or building trade background, or construction-related tertiary training (engineering included)
- Solid coordination and communication; a lot of this role is getting other people to do things properly
- Confident in Procore or similar, and current first aid
- Passive fire experience on multi-residential is a real advantage, not a deal-breaker
On temperament they're direct about it: humble, no job beneath you, delivers what you said you would, and adds something to the people around you. WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU
- $150k–$200k
- High-rise on your CV, years on the one site, close to home if you're on the Coast
- Coaching and real career-path planning, not a vague promise
- A guaranteed two-week Christmas shutdown that doesn't touch your annual leave, novated leasing, discounted health cover and a recognition scheme that actually pays out
