Employment Type: Full-time
Salary: $60,000 – $70,000 per year, depending on experience (plus $1.00/km vehicle allowance for eligible travel)
Why Xenontech?
We're a growing IT services team supporting schools across Sydney, and we're looking for a Field Technician who takes pride in solving problems and showing up reliably for the people who depend on us. You'll get variety in your day, real autonomy in the field, hands-on mentorship as you grow your skills, and a team that backs you when things get tricky on-site.
What a Day Looks Like
No two days are quite the same. You'll travel to different schools depending on where you live and what's on the roster, some days you'll be right around the corner, other days a bit further out. You'll be the first point of contact for IT issues on-site: troubleshooting hardware and software, keeping clear records of what you did and why, and communicating with school staff along the way. When something's outside your depth, you'll escalate it and learn from how it gets resolved.
Job Purpose:
Provide reliable first-level technical support to assigned schools by troubleshooting IT issues, maintaining accurate records, and helping ensure seamless IT operations. Technicians in this role are expected to demonstrate professional maturity, technical competency, and proactive communication with school stakeholders.
This position supports:
- Consistent Xenontech service delivery across schools
- Reduced issue resolution times and improved tech performance
- Continued school satisfaction and retention
- High visibility into school IT health
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver on-site technical support across hardware/software issues per Scope of Works
- Complete EoV forms,
log tickets, and maintain accurate handover sheets
- Communicate clearly and proactively with internal teams and schools
- Submit reports, timesheets, and feedback promptly
- Maintain professionalism; punctuality, uniform standards, presentation, and respectful communication on-site
- Follow workplace safety practices and report incidents or hazards
- Handle basic inventory tasks, asset tagging, and register updates
- Escalate complex or high-priority issues as needed
- Build trust with schools through quality service and consistent follow-through
- Mentor junior or trainee techs where applicable
- Contribute to client satisfaction and service consistency to support retention goals.
What You'll Need
- Certificate III in IT or higher
- Driver's licence and full time access to a reliable car
- 1–2 years of technical field experience preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Comfortable working independently and managing multiple tasks in a day
- Attention to detail, especially with documentation
- Bonus points: experience in the education sector, or with Jamf School/Jamf Pro, Microsoft Intune, or Google Admin Console
Hours & Travel
This is a full-time role, and travel is a regular part of the job. You'll be on the road to a different school most days. The distance varies depending on where you live and which schools are on the books at the time.
How to Apply
Send us your resume (a cover letter is welcome but not required.) We'd love to hear a bit about your IT background and what draws you to a hands-on field role. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for a short phone interview, followed by a face to face interview.
