About the Role:
Our client, a state government organisation, is currently seeking PO2 Remote Sensing Scientists based in Brisbane. In this role, you’ll interpret satellite and other imagery to map and identify landscape changes, with a specific focus on vegetation monitoring. You will apply your knowledge and expertise to contribute to state-wide mapping and monitoring projects.

As a Remote Sensing Scientist, you will:

- Process, interpret and analyse remote sensing imagery and spatial data to identify, map and monitor woody vegetation and/or other environmental changes.
- Generate and deliver high-quality, scientifically defensible environmental mapping and monitoring products.
- Contribute to research, innovation and process improvements associated with spatial information, image processing, analysis and environmental monitoring products.
- Participate in fieldwork and field data collection for the calibration and validation of remotely sensed imagery and derived mapping products.
- Prepare and contribute to reports, presentations, publications and technical documentation to communicate project outcomes and findings.
- Work independently and as a member of a team and contribute positively to the team’s day-to-day operations, functioning and culture.

Please note: This position may require travel to other locations to undertake fieldwork, including overnight stays, and may involve extended periods of travel outside normal working hours.

Skills & Experience:
To be appointed for this position, you will need to have:

- A tertiary qualification in Applied Science or Natural Resource Management, majoring in Remote Sensing, Image Processing, Geographic Information System (GIS), or Geography or agreed equivalent.
- A high level of computer literacy and experience working with QGIS and/or ArcGIS software.
- Experience in GIS,



image analysis and interpretation, and landscape assessment for mapping and monitoring environmental change, preferably with a focus on vegetation.
- A strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately interpret imagery and perform repetitive desktop-based mapping activities.
- The ability to translate data into meaningful information for reporting or analytical purposes.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team-oriented team environment.
- Proven ability to engage and communicate with team members, customers and collaborative partners.
