The Gold Coast SUNS are seeking a Clinical Neuropsychologist to join the club as part of the AFL Brain Health Initiative (BHI). The AFL Brain Health Initiative is a league-wide research and health program focused on understanding, monitoring and supporting brain health throughout a player's career and beyond. As part of this initiative, every AFL and AFLW club will have a dedicated Clinical Neuropsychologist who will play a key role in player assessment, education, research participation and long-term brain health monitoring. About the role

Working closely with the Club's Chief Medical Officer, club psychologists, doctors and high-performance staff, you will support both the AFL and AFLW programs through a combination of clinical and research activities as part of the AFL Brain Health Initiative, a landmark program designed to advance our understanding of brain health and improve long-term player wellbeing across the AFL and AFLW. This is a two-year fixed-term position at 0.2 FTE (one day per week), funded through the AFL Brain Health Initiative. Flexible working arrangements are available.

Key responsibilities

- Conducting pre-season baseline, post-concussion and club-exit neurocognitive assessments for AFL and AFLW players.

- Undertaking neuropsychological assessments using a client-centred, evidence-based approach.

- Providing neuropsychological feedback, clinical opinions and recommendations to players and healthcare staff.





- Supporting rehabilitation planning and recommendations arising from neuropsychological assessments.

- Coordinating and escalating care for players requiring additional clinical support.

- Facilitating player education, recruitment and participation in the AFL Brain Health Initiative.

- Supporting the informed consent process for participating players.

- Coordinating brain health-related processes associated with the AFL Brain Health Initiative, including MRI referrals and participant follow-up where required.

- Collecting, monitoring and managing research data in accordance with ethical, privacy and governance requirements.

- Acting as a trusted point of contact for players regarding brain health and participation in the AFL Brain Health Initiative.

About you

- A Master's degree or Clinical Doctorate/PhD in Clinical Neuropsychology.

- Current registration with AHPRA.

- Current Working With Children Check.

- Current Police Check (or ability to obtain one).

- Professional indemnity insurance.

- Current driver's licence.

- A minimum of two years' postgraduate clinical and/or research experience in neuropsychology.

- Completion of Valuable Clinical Practice (GCP) training, or willingness to obtain certification prior to commencement.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust with players and staff.

- A willingness to travel occasionally as required.

- Working with professional athletes (desirable)

- Concussion management and assessment (desirable)

- Concussion, brain health or related research (desirable)
