Join a specialist legal service helping victim-survivors of sexual violence access justice, understand their rights, and navigate complex legal and justice systems. YFS Legal is seeking a passionate and capable solicitor to join our existing legal team and deliver trauma-informed, victim-survivor-centred legal assistance through the Sexual Violence Advocacy and Legal Service (SVALS).
YFS Legal is Logan's only community legal centre. For more than 30 years, we have worked alongside people experiencing disadvantage, providing free legal assistance through a holistic, culturally safe and trauma-informed approach. As part of the Queensland-wide SVALS network, this role offers a unique opportunity to combine legal practice, advocacy and justice system navigation to improve outcomes for victim-survivors of sexual violence.

This is not a traditional solicitor position.
As the SVALS Solicitor, you will support victim-survivors throughout their justice journey, from understanding legal options and reporting decisions through to engagement with police, prosecution services, courts and victims' rights processes. You will provide specialist legal assistance while also advocating for clients, helping them navigate complex systems and addressing barriers to justice.
You will:
- Provide legal information, advice, minor assistance, casework, representation, advocacy and justice system navigation support to victim-survivors of sexual violence.
- Assist clients to understand their rights, legal options and pathways through criminal justice, victims' rights and related civil law processes.
- Support victim-survivors throughout their justice journey, promoting informed decision-making, safety, autonomy and access to justice.
- Deliver trauma-informed, culturally safe and victim-survivor-centred legal services that respond to the impacts of trauma, disadvantage and vulnerability.
- Undertake legal and non-legal advocacy and build referral pathways with key justice, government and community services.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with police, courts, victim support services, health providers and community organisations.
- Contribute to community legal education, stakeholder engagement, law reform and systemic advocacy initiatives that improve responses to sexual violence.
- Contribute to service development, quality improvement and broader strategic priorities across YFS Legal.
About you
You are a motivated solicitor who combines strong legal practice skills with a commitment to social justice, human rights and improving access to justice for victim-survivors.
You will bring:
- Admission as a legal practitioner in Queensland and an unrestricted Queensland Practising Certificate.
- Experience providing legal advice, casework, representation and advocacy.
- An understanding of trauma-informed, victim-survivor-centred and culturally safe legal practice.
- Experience working with people affected by trauma, violence, abuse, discrimination or complex vulnerability.
- Knowledge of criminal justice processes, victims' rights frameworks and legal issues affecting victim-survivors of sexual violence.
- Strong advocacy, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- The ability to build rapport with vulnerable clients and work effectively with diverse communities and stakeholders.
- Robust organisational skills, initiative and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- A demonstrated commitment to human rights, social justice and improving outcomes for victim-survivors of sexual violence.
