What's the role?
You'll play a key role in shaping how we build and run smart, reliable software using AI and automation.
Working across our Mortgages technology team, you'll design, build and operate high quality solutions that support critical banking services, while improving how we test, release and monitor them in real time.
This role is all about modern engineering.
You'll help embed AI into the software delivery lifecycle, from test generation to code review support, while strengthening automation across CI CD pipelines and environments.
You'll also build capability within the team, reducing reliance on external partners and creating sustainable in house expertise.
You'll collaborate closely with product, engineering and risk teams to deliver outcomes that are secure, resilient and aligned with customer expectations.
Alongside hands on engineering, you'll mentor others and help lift standards across automation, quality and responsible AI use.
This is a permanent, hybrid role based in Sydney Warrane, Gadigal Country.
What do I need?
Solid software engineering experience delivering business-critical applications and services using modern technologies (e.g. Java, .NET, cloud-native, microservices).
Proven ability to design scalable solutions, write high-quality code, and drive testing and code review best practices.
Solid understanding of secure-by-design principles, risk management, and delivery in regulated environments.
Hands-on experience with observability, incident management, and continuous service improvement.

Practical experience applying AI to software engineering and quality practices, including automation, analytics, and developer productivity.
Proven track record improving release quality and delivery through test automation, CI/CD, and engineering best practices.
Strong stakeholder management and collaboration skills across product, engineering, and risk teams.
We're obsessed with becoming our customers #1 banking partner for life and we're looking for people who are passionate about helping us achieve that goal.
In return we're committed to making Westpac the best place to work in the country.
Here are just a few of the ways we're already doing that:
Special offers on banking products and discounts from top brands, including generous employee only mortgage rates
Flexible work arrangements to help you achieve a greater work life balance, and a variety of leave options including Culture, Lifestyle and Wellbeing leave
Tailored learning and development opportunities to help your grow your career within the bank
Lots of opportunities to give back to the Community by getting involved in our many volunteering initiatives
We're all about creating a supportive and inclusive community.
We welcome everyone no matter your age, gender, background, or abilities.
We also provide additional support to welcome our veterans, Indigenous Australians and neurodiverse community.
If you need any adjustments during the recruitment process, you can find more information and contact details on ourFAQs and how to contact us page , under the 'Diversity, sustainability and flexibility' section.
