CKG Search has been exclusively instructed by a well-funded, fast-scaling international corporate that is establishing its legal and regulatory foundation across Australia and New Zealand.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the APAC General Counsel (based in Singapore) and partnering with local and regional leadership, this standalone role leads the A/NZ legal and compliance agenda. You will support compliant market entry and scalable growth, acting as the trusted local adviser on insurance, financial services and regulatory matters while shaping how the business operates in the region.
The appointee will initially work remotely; an office will be established in either Sydney or Melbourne as the business scales.
On Offer
The chance to build a legal and compliance function from the ground up
High visibility to regional and executive leadership and genuine influence over strategy
Competitive remuneration, dependent on experience, and access to pre-IPO options
Remote-first working with an office to be established as the business scales
An entrepreneurial, low-ego, hands-on culture that respects family time and lifestyle
Exposure to a full product suite still being rolled out, at the intersection of insurance and technology
While the role is offered on a full-time, intially-remote basis, our client is open to discussing flexible working arrangements and reasonable adjustments to support your success.
Responsibilities
Advise on Australian insurance, financial services and regulatory requirements, including ASIC, APRA and AFSL obligations
Support regulatory establishment and market entry across Australia and New Zealand
Draft, review and negotiate commercial and distribution agreements
Advise on product design, distribution structures and customer outcomes
Act as the key legal interface with A/NZ regulators, coordinating responses, filings and notices
Build, embed and improve compliance frameworks, governance controls and licence management
Requirements
Law degree and an Australian Practising Certificate (or eligibility)
5 to 10 years' post-qualification experience across insurance, financial services regulatory, commercial and technology matters
Practical experience managing AFSL licence obligations, including licence conditions, breach assessment and regulatory reporting
Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills, and the ability to translate complex regulatory matters for commercial stakeholders
A pragmatic, proactive, business-oriented approach suited to a dynamic, greenfield environment
This role will suit an insurance or financial services lawyer who wants ownership, breadth and the pace of a scale-up rather than the constraints of a mature legal team. If you have any exposure to technology and/or corporate matters, you will be held in high regard.
If you are ready to build something and be recognised for it, this is the chance to define your market.
At CKG Search, we specialise in legal and governance recruitment, taking a consultative approach and leveraging deep expertise and extensive networks to connect talent with opportunity, shape careers, and strengthen organisations.
