Role Description
The Work Health Safety & Compliance Manager is a full time, on-site role based in Canberra, responsible for overseeing and continuously improving workplace health, safety, and compliance across all project locations. Day-to-day activities include developing, implementing, and reviewing WHS policies and procedures, conducting site safety inspections, and ensuring adherence to regulatory and client requirements. The role involves leading incident and accident investigations, identifying root causes, and driving corrective and preventative actions. The manager will design and deliver safety training programs, support supervisors and project managers with risk assessments and method statements, and maintain accurate safety and compliance documentation.
Collaboration with operational teams, subcontractors, and external regulators is essential to foster a proactive safety culture and minimize operational risk.
Qualifications
Demonstrated skills in Regulatory Compliance and Safety Compliance, with experience applying WHS legislation and industry standards in civil construction environments.
Experience in Environment Health and Safety (EHS), including hazard identification, risk assessment, and implementation of environmental and safety controls.
Strong capability in Training design and delivery, including toolbox talks, inductions, and targeted safety programs for diverse site teams.
Proven expertise in Accident Investigation, incident reporting, and root cause analysis, with the ability to implement effective corrective actions.
Qualifications in Work Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related discipline; professional certifications in WHS are essential.
Experience in civil construction or infrastructure projects, with practical understanding of site operations, plant, and equipment risks.
Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and documentation skills, with the ability to influence behaviors and build a strong safety culture.
High level of organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced project environment.
