About us
The Office of the General Counsel (OGC)is responsible for providing in-house legal services across the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) and to the Attorney-General, asFirst Law Officer,
and other DJCS portfolio Ministers.
The Corporate & Commercial team provides legal support to DJCS' operations, programs and enabling functions, including a wide range of commercial matters, investigations, disputes and litigation. Its work spans procurement, IT, employment and OHS matters, integrity body investigations, inquiries, and FOI litigation and privacy matters.
What you will do
As Senior Legal Adviser, Corporate & Commercial, you will advise the department on complex legal matters.
You will work across a broad practice covering commercial, regulatory and contentious legal work.
You will:
provide
explicit and authoritative
legal advice on complex government matters
lead
complex and sensitive
commercial and regulatory matters with little supervision
advise on procurement, ICT, employment, OHS, investigations, inquiries, FOI and privacy matters
prepare
high-quality
legal documents, briefs, advice and ministerial correspondence
work across the Office of the General Counsel and support a
positive
team culture.
About you
You must be admitted to practise as a legal practitioner in Victoria. At least 3-6 years of legal practice experience is preferred.
You should also have:
strong legal skills
to analyse complex issues, contracts and laws with little supervision
senior commercial or regulatory experience
across transactions, projects, disputes or investigations
knowledge of Victorian Government
and Cabinet processes
strong judgement and people skills
to solve problems, guide others and work through change.
