Learning on Country (LoC) Teacher-Coordinator
ANZUK Education invites applications for an experienced, culturally responsive and community-minded Learning on Country (LoC) Teacher-Coordinator on Wik Country in Aurukun. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate educator to work in partnership with Traditional Owners, Wik Mungkan Language and Culture Teachers, Indigenous Ranger Groups, family, and the Principal to design, implement, and support high quality Learning on Country (LoC) programs.
The School
Koolkan Aurukun State School is a Kindergarten to Year 12 school located in the remote Cape York community of Aurukun. Established in ****, the school is a central part of the community, educating around 230 students and providing a culturally inclusive learning environment. The school values and promotes Wik Mungkan, the local Indigenous language, which is both spoken and taught alongside Standard Australian English.

About the Role
Learning on Country (LoC)
is guided by a local Traditional Owner governance model and delivered in partnership with the school, ensuring that cultural knowledge, priorities, and community aspirations are central to learning. The program provides culturally responsive education that connects students to Country, culture,



language, and identity while supporting academic achievement and personal growth.
Key responsibilities include
:
This position blends curriculum expertise with relational work, supporting cultural knowledge transmission, coordinating Learning On Country (LoC) activities, and aligning local cultural content with the Australian Curriculum.
Supporting Wik Mungkan Language and Culture Teachers to lead Learning On Country (LoC) and cultural education
Co-designing learning sequences grounded in local knowledge, seasonal calendars, and Country
Working closely with Indigenous Ranger groups to align education outcomes that promote traditional knowledge transfer through the management of Country.
Coordinating logistics for on country bush trips, workshops, and bush classrooms
Working closely with the Principal to embed Indigenous pedagogies across the curriculum
Providing teacher support, mentoring and reflections related to place-based learning
Fostering and maintaining strong, respectful relationships with communities, Elders, families and local organisations
Demonstrated ability to manage and maintain program documentation, including planning, assessment support, compliance and reporting processes.
Follow the community LoC Governance model
This role is ideal for someone who values Aboriginal Governance, Aboriginal pedagogy and education, relational leadership, and collaborative curriculum approaches.
About You
The successful candidate will be an experienced educator and collaborative leader with a genuine passion for indigenous education and improving outcomes for every student.
You will bring:
Queensland teacher registration (or eligibility to obtain registration).
Must be able to blend cultural responsiveness, strong community relationships, and robust project management skills.
A deep respect for, and understanding of, local Aboriginal histories, protocols, and Country.
Exceptional interpersonal and negotiation skills to balance the expectations of the school and the local Indigenous community.
Willing to relocate and embrace a new community.
