About the Company
A well-established civil infrastructure contractor delivering complex construction and infrastructure projects across NSW. The business has a strong reputation for delivering quality projects safely and takes a practical, hands-on approach to health and safety. With a strong pipeline of work, the business is looking to add an experienced WHS Coordinator to support project delivery and provide visible safety leadership across site operations.
About the Work Health & Safety Coordinator Role
Reporting to the WHS Manager, and working closely with the wider WHS and project teams, this is a highly operational, site-based role, supporting the delivery of major civil infrastructure works in Western Sydney.
You will provide day-to-day WHS support across active work fronts, working closely with supervisors, subcontractors and site crews to identify risks, implement practical controls and ensure works are delivered safely and in accordance with legislative and project requirements. The projects involve complex civil and infrastructure construction activities, including underground works, excavation, pipeline installation and other high-risk construction activities.
The role would suit someone with experience working across Transport for NSW (TfNSW), Sydney Water, or similar client sites, whether you have strong hands-on operational WHS experience or are looking to take the next step into a dedicated site-based role.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits and field safety interactions across active work fronts
- Monitor high-risk construction activities and ensure appropriate controls are implemented
- Review SWMS, permits and other high-risk work documentation
- Support supervisors and project teams with pre-starts, toolbox talks and daily safety engagement
- Identify hazards and work collaboratively with site teams to implement practical risk controls
- Assist with incident investigations, corrective actions and safety reporting
- Maintain accurate site safety records, inspections and documentation
- Promote positive safety behaviours through workforce engagement
- Provide practical WHS advice to project teams, supervisors and subcontractors
- Ensure compliance with WHS legislation, client requirements and project management systems
Skills & Experience
- Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety (or equivalent)
- Experience working on major civil infrastructure, underground utilities, pipeline, water, wastewater, or similar projects for TfNSW, Sydney Water, or other major government, utility, or infrastructure clients
- Exposure to high-risk activities including excavation, confined spaces, lifting operations and underground construction
- Solid communication skills, with the ability to build credibility and relationships with supervisors, subcontractors and frontline workers
- Practical, proactive approach to WHS, with the confidence to challenge unsafe practices when required
- White Card and current driver's licence
- First Aid qualification
