About the client & the role
Our client is a family-owned funeral business with a well-established reputation in Canberra. As a close-knit team that takes pride in caring for local families and supporting each other, they offer meaningful work in a supportive environment.
They're looking for a genuine all-rounder to join their team as a Funeral Director's Assistant - someone eager, adaptable, and willing to learn.
You'll provide hands-on operational and service support to our Funeral Directors, helping deliver a dignified, respectful, and professional experience for families at one of the most important moments in their lives.
No prior experience is necessary. We provide full, structured training across every aspect of the role, so what matters most is your attitude, reliability, and willingness to learn.
What you'll be doing
- Assisting Funeral Directors before, during, and after services to ensure everything runs smoothly and respectfully
- Preparing chapels, venues, vehicles, and equipment to a high standard
- Providing courteous, discreet support to families and attendees on the day
- Assisting with transfers of the deceased, and with the respectful preparation and presentation of deceased persons, always with dignity and care
- Safe manual handling of deceased persons and coffins
- Completing mortuary registration, identification, and checking procedures accurately
- Assisting with coffin/casket preparation, trimming, and nameplate engraving
- General cleaning duties, including vehicle washing and maintaining facilities and equipment to a high standard
What we're looking for
- A genuine all-rounder; eager, adaptable, and willing to learn; no funeral industry experience necessary
- Current driver's licence (essential)
- Strong interpersonal skills and a calm, empathetic manner in emotionally sensitive situations
- Reliability, punctuality, and flexibility; this role includes rostered hours, early starts, (occasional) weekend work, and (rostered) after-hours/on-call availability as required
- Physical capacity to perform the manual handling tasks associated with the role
- Willingness to consent to a National Police Check
- Eligibility to work in Australia
