This rewarding role provides an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Aboriginal people, families and communities by supporting access to culturally safe, recovery-oriented mental health care. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in engaging Aboriginal consumers and their families, advocating for their needs, and supporting positive mental health and wellbeing outcomes.
You will work collaboratively with clinicians, community organisations and Aboriginal services to strengthen cultural responsiveness and ensure mental health services are accessible, respectful and responsive to the needs of Aboriginal communities. The role also involves mental health promotion, community liaison and contributing to the ongoing development of culturally appropriate services across the district.

The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic and community-focused Aboriginal person who is passionate about supporting the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal people and improving access to culturally safe mental health services.
You will have strong communication and relationship-building skills, enabling you to engage effectively with Aboriginal consumers, families, communities, clinical teams and external stakeholders. You understand the importance of cultural safety and bring a compassionate, respectful and strengths-based approach to supporting people experiencing mental health challenges.
You thrive in a collaborative team environment and are motivated to work alongside consumers and families to achieve positive outcomes. Experience working within health, mental health, community services or Aboriginal organisations will be highly regarded, along with an understanding of the unique challenges and barriers Aboriginal people may face when accessing healthcare services.
Most importantly, you will be committed to advocacy, community engagement and continuous learning, with a genuine desire to contribute to better mental health outcomes for Aboriginal people across the Macarthur region and South Western Sydney.
Selection Criteria

- In this role being an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a genuine occupational requirement. Tell us about your mob and connection to culture?
- Willingness and ability to complete further education in Mental Health or relevant qualification e.g., Certificate IV Mental Health; Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health) qualification at Charles Sturt University or an equivalent clinical qualification negotiated and approved by the Mental Health Service.
- Describe how you have provided culturally safe and recovery-oriented mental health support to Aboriginal individuals and families. In your response, please include examples of how you incorporated cultural perspectives into clinical practice, collaborated with multidisciplinary teams, and ensured alignment with relevant legislation such as the NSW Mental Health Act 2007.
- How have you engaged with Aboriginal communities and stakeholders to promote mental health awareness and improve access toculturally appropriate services?
Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
