Our client, a key government agency committed to fostering innovation and sustainable industry growth, is seeking a Lead Microservices and AI Technical Architect to join their team based in Canberra with flexible hybrid work arrangements.

In this pivotal role, you will provide technical leadership and architectural authority in designing, governing, and evolving cloud native, microservices-based, and AI-enabled platforms aligned with enterprise architecture, security, and business transformation goals.

Your responsibilities will include leading the establishment of modern engineering and AI delivery practices such as AI-enabled software development lifecycle (SDLC), DevSecOps, continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD), observability, automated testing, and platform engineering standards that ensure secure, scalable, and reliable services.

You will drive technology modernization and platform adoption initiatives focusing on enhancing microservices, containerization, integrating enterprise systems, and implementing reusable patterns that boost scalability, maintainability, and operational resilience.

As a leader, you will build organisational capability and technical maturity through knowledge transfer, governance, and leadership of multidisciplinary teams, fostering engineering excellence and continuous improvement.

Key requirements include:





- Extensive experience designing and governing cloud native, microservices, and event-driven architectures in complex enterprise environments.
- Expertise in AI engineering, including deploying enterprise AI capabilities, semantic search, machine learning solutions, and responsible AI practices.
- Strong software and platform engineering skills with proficiency in DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, and security by design.
- Proven success in leading enterprise technology modernization initiatives and influencing architecture decisions to enhance platform reliability, security, and scalability.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and leadership skills, with experience leading multidisciplinary teams and translating complex requirements into technology outcomes.

Desirable skills:

- Experience with container platforms such as Kubernetes, OpenShift, AKS, EKS, or GKE including automation and governance.
- Knowledge of cloud platform modernization, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), platform engineering, and observability tooling.
- Experience leading agile delivery with geographically dispersed teams, driving capability uplift and fostering a culture of innovation.

This role requires the ability to obtain Baseline security clearance. Our client primarily uses Azure cloud services. The position supports hybrid work arrangements with occasional travel to Canberra as needed.
