About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Cadet Engineer to join the Infrastructure Directorate and gain exposure to engineering practices across various teams. The cadet program works on a rotational basis to provide a broad range of experience and learning in a multi-disciplinary, cutting-edge and collaborative team environment.
This person will need to work collaboratively with other teams to ensure a strong team-based, integrated and collaborative approach to the delivery of projects and services for Knox City Council and its Community.
This includes responsive customer service (both internal and external customers); engineering investigations and resolution; planning & development referrals; engineering analysis, surveying and design; construction supervision; and, project management, as well as working respectfully across multiple professions to incorporate others' priorities and needs that will result in the greatest community benefits.
The Cadet Engineer role is a three-year opportunity designed to support undergraduate students as they transition from university into the engineering profession.
The first year is a part-time, temporary position, allowing students to complete the final year of their undergraduate Civil Engineering degree while gaining practical experience. Upon successful completion of a Bachelor of Civil Engineering, the role transitions to a full-time temporary position for the remaining two years of the program.
The role is based across both the Knox City Council Civic Centre and Operations Centre. Flexible working arrangements are supported, while ensuring the operational requirements of the role are met.
For year 1, this is a Band 3 classified role. Remuneration will be $71,147.02 to $75,750.73 depending on experience (pro-rata for part time) plus superannuation in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee.
For Years 2 and 3, this is a Band 5 classified role. Remuneration will be $83,593.07 to $97,258.47 (pro-rata for part time) plus superannuation in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee.
What you will bring to this role
The key selection criteria for this role are:
- Currently undertaking a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil), with your final year commencing in 2027
- An enthusiasm to learn and an ability to enhance comprehension of engineering concepts and apply them in a practical workplace.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships.
- An understanding of personal knowledge gaps and ability to seek additional resources and support where required.
- An understanding of relevant AustRoads guides, Australian Standards and other technical reference material.
- Ability to analyse problems and make decisions on a day-to-day basis within level of understanding of engineering concepts.
- Knowledge of Autocad and engineering analysis programs is desirable.
- A demonstrated record of achievement and consistent performance.
