About the Role
You will be responsible for planning, managing and delivering mid to large-scale geotechnical investigations, with particular exposure to projects within the renewable energy and transport infrastructure sectors.
The role combines project management, field investigation, technical interpretation, reporting and client engagement. You will have the opportunity to work with major clients and take responsibility for project budgets, programmes and delivery outcomes.
You will be expected to work confidently and autonomously while being supported by D&N;'s broader national team of experienced geotechnical engineers, engineering geologists and environmental professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate and project manage mid to large-scale geotechnical investigation projects from inception through to completion.
- Develop investigation scopes, methodologies, programmes and project budgets.
- Coordinate field investigations including drilling, sampling, logging and field testing.
- Manage subcontractors, field teams and other project resources to achieve safe and effective project delivery.
- Manage project budgets, costs and commercial performance.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, including major infrastructure, government and corporate clients.
- Communicate confidently with clients, project teams and stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.
- Prepare and review factual and interpretative geotechnical investigation reports and associated technical documentation.
- Interpret geological and geotechnical information and develop sound ground models and conclusions.
- Provide practical technical advice and clearly communicate findings to clients and project stakeholders.
- Contribute to proposals, scopes of work and project planning.
- Work collaboratively with geotechnical engineers, engineering geologists,
environmental scientists and other technical specialists across D&N.;
- Mentor and support developing engineers and geologists where appropriate.
- Work in accordance with D&N;'s Quality, Environmental and Safety Management Systems.
About You
We are looking for experienced consultants who combine strong technical capability with sound project management and client-facing skills.
You will ideally have:
- A degree in Engineering Geology, Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Approximately 5–12 years' relevant consulting experience, depending on capability and level.
- Demonstrated experience planning and managing mid to large-scale geotechnical investigations.
- Experience working on renewable energy, transport infrastructure or other major infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated project management experience, including responsibility for budgets, programmes and project delivery.
- Experience managing relationships with larger clients and multiple project stakeholders.
- Strong factual and interpretative reporting skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence communicating directly with clients and stakeholders and taking ownership of issues when they arise.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively to a national team.
- A practical approach to geotechnical investigation and interpretation.
- A strong commitment to health, safety and quality.
- Australian working rights or a clear pathway to obtaining them.
- A current Australian driver's licence.
Engineering geology experience will be highly regarded.
