The Rockhampton Grammar School is seeking an experienced and passionate Food Services Manager to lead our diverse catering operations, supporting boarding students, staff, and the broader School community.
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing food service operations, leading a dedicated team, ensuring high standards of food safety and customer service, and contributing to the well-being of our students through exceptional dining experiences.
In return, we offer a competitive salary package of $90,000 - $107,000, along with the unique benefit of six weeks annual leave, designed to be taken during School holiday periods. While the role operates year-round, this additional leave recognises the important role the position plays in supporting the varied demands of the annual school calendar.
Commencement for this role is as soon as possible or as negotiated with the successful candidate.
POSITION TITLE: Food Services Manager
DEPARTMENT: Food Services
CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time, Permanent (six weeks annual leave to be taken during School holiday periods)
REPORTS TO: Services Manager
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
General:
- Lead and oversee all food service operations across dining, retail, catering, and school facilities, ensuring high-quality, efficient service delivery.
- Develop and review nutritious, cost-effective menus and food programs that meet diverse customer and dietary needs.
- Build solid relationships with students, parents, staff, suppliers, and school leaders, using feedback to drive continuous improvement.
- Manage procurement, inventory, catering services, canteen operations, and sustainability initiatives to support operational excellence.
Food Safety and Compliance:
- Maintain and oversee the School's Food Safety Program, ensuring compliance with all legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Implement, monitor, and review food safety procedures, records, audits, and corrective actions.
- Ensure staff are appropriately trained and maintain required food safety competencies and certifications.
- Prepare for and support regulatory inspections and food safety audits.
Student Wellbeing and Dietary Management:
- Ensure food services support student health, wellbeing, and nutritional needs.
- Safely manage allergies, medical dietary requirements, cultural considerations, and special diets.
- Collaborate with relevant staff to support individual student dietary needs.
- Promote healthy eating habits and positive dining experiences across the School community.
Work Health and Safety (WHS):
- Maintain a safe workplace by ensuring compliance with WHS legislation, policies, and risk management requirements.
- Identify hazards, assess risks, and implement controls to minimise workplace incidents and injuries.
- Ensure safe operation of equipment, facilities, and hazardous substances, including compliance with Safety Data Sheets.
- Investigate incidents, implement corrective actions, and contribute to WHS audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Catering and Event Services:
- Coordinate and oversee catering services for boarding, staff, school events, functions, meetings, and external venue hire activities.
- Work closely with event organisers and stakeholders to deliver quality catering solutions within budget.
- Ensure catering services consistently meet customer expectations and operational requirements.
- Uphold the School's reputation for hospitality, professionalism, and service excellence.
Financial Management:
- Prepare and manage food service operating and capital budgets.
- Monitor expenditure, financial performance, and resource utilisation to ensure sustainability and cost efficiency.
- Analyse costs and implement strategies that improve operational efficiency while maintaining service quality.
- Provide financial reporting, forecasting, and ensure procurement activities comply with School policies and delegations.
Supervision:
- Provide leadership, direction, coaching, and support to food service employees, fostering a positive team culture.
- Manage workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, rostering, leave management, and succession planning.
- Ensure staffing levels and skills align with operational requirements and service demands.
- Support employee development through training, mentoring, performance management, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Selection Criteria:
- Relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery,
supported by experience in food service, catering, hospitality, or large-scale dining environments.
- Strong knowledge of food safety, allergen management, food handling practices, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Proven leadership and people management skills, with the ability to lead, develop, and support diverse teams.
- Demonstrated experience in financial and operational management, including budgeting, procurement, inventory control, and resource planning.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and prioritisation skills, with the ability to deliver quality outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to customer service excellence, continuous improvement, and enhancing the dining experience.
- Sound understanding of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) requirements and the ability to promote safe work practices.
- Demonstrated ability to foster a respectful, inclusive, collaborative, and positive workplace culture.
REQUIRED LICENCES/CERTIFICATES
- Working with Children Check;
- Police Check; and
- Safeguarding Children Checks.
