We are seeking a solid, reliable, and strong Cultural Mentor to stand firm alongside participants as they navigate reintegration, overcome challenges, and take ownership of their path back into the community.

The Arnhem Land Progress Aboriginal Corporation (ALPA) is a proud First Nations organisation committed to driving economic development, health, and independence for First Nations people.

Our Reconnection, Employment and Learning (REAL) Program delivers direct, on-the-ground support to Aboriginal people who are in custody or transitioning from incarceration back into community. We focus on practical execution, long-term stability, and solid cultural standing to ensure candidates return home with confidence and dignity.

The Opportunity

In this role, paper qualifications take a backseat to strength of character and lived experience. We value your standing in the community and your ability to lead from the front.

You will be the backbone of support-acting as a strong role model, a cultural bridge, and a direct guide for participants facing real-world hurdles. Working alongside our Case Managers, you will build a disciplined, resilient foundation for mob reconnecting with Country, family, and culture.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead & Guide: Direct and mentor participants through post-release challenges, instilling confidence, accountability, and personal strength.

- Anchor Cultural Identity: Actively re-establish solid connections with Country, kin, language, Elders, and local leaders.

- Lead by Example:



Demonstrate high standards of work ethic, professionalism, personal resolve, and commitment to community safety.

- Drive Results: Coordinate with Case Managers and local service providers to ensure targeted, practical support is delivered effectively.

- Hands-on Execution: Carry out action plans, maintain clear activity logs, and represent the team at community and cultural gatherings.

- Identified Requirement: Genuine lived experience, strong cultural identity, and deep knowledge of local First Nations communities.

- Real-World Capability Over Degrees: You don't need formal qualifications-you need grit, real-world understanding, and unshakeable respect for culture.

- Strong Role Model: A steady, principled character capable of guiding participants through tough social, cultural, and personal obstacles.

- Community Footprint: Strong local networks and a solid, practical understanding of the justice system transition process.

- Practical Capability: Basic tech/communication skills for logging notes, a valid driver's license, and readiness to travel to remote communities.
