Job Description
About the Role:
n Talent Insights is partnering with a well-known brand as they uplift their analytics function and push the business towards self-serve reporting.
n
This isn't a pure dashboard-building role, and it isn't a pure data engineering role - it's both. We're looking for someone who can sit down with a stakeholder, translate what they actually need into a technical solution, build the underlying data model in Databricks and SQL, validate that the data is fit for purpose, and then bring it to life in Power BI.
n
One person owning data through to story, rather than a hand-off between a data person and a viz person.
n
You'll be joining a team mid-migration from Tableau to Power BI, so experience with both platforms is highly valued.
n
Key Responsibilities
n
n
Partner directly with stakeholders to gather requirements and shape them into a data and visualisation solution
n
Build and maintain data models and semantic layers in Databricks, using SQL (Python a plus)
n
Validate and quality-check data to confirm it's fit for purpose before it reaches a dashboard
n
Design and build semantic models that support the business's shift towards self-serve reporting
n
Build Power BI dashboards and reports that clearly and effectively tell the story behind the data
n
Support the ongoing migration of existing Tableau dashboards into Power BI
n
Work autonomously, taking ownership of problems end-to-end rather than waiting for direction
n
n
Skills & Experience
n
n
Must have: robust hands-on Databricks and SQL experience
n
Must have: deep, demonstrable Power BI development experience
n
Must have: solid working knowledge of Tableau (migration experience highly regarded)
n
Robust data modelling and semantic model design skills, ideally with self-serve reporting in mind
n
Python experience nice to have, not essential
n
Experience in telco is a bonus, but skillset matters more than industry background
n
Self-driven with strong stakeholder management - comfortable running requirements conversations and owning the outcome
n
A genuine passion for turning data into a explicit, compelling story - not just building charts, but understanding what they need to show
n
Prior experience blending data engineering/modelling work with visualisation delivery (rather than working purely on one side of that line)
