An exceptional chance is available for an experienced Interventional Cardiologist to take a leading role in establishing and developing a new interventional cardiology service within a major regional referral hospital in Queensland.

Following significant investment in its cardiac services, the hospital now features a state-of-the-art Cardiac Hybrid Theatre, purpose-built Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory, expanded Cardiac Investigations Unit and dedicated 12-bed Cardiology Ward.

This is more than a procedural position. You will have the opportunity to establish clinical pathways, influence models of care, develop regional capability and help shape the future of specialist cardiac services across an extensive referral network.

The Opportunity
As a Senior Specialist or Specialist in Interventional Cardiology, you will deliver high-quality General and Interventional Cardiology services across the Coronary Care Unit, Cardiology Ward, outpatient clinics and Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory.

You will play a central role in establishing the hospital’s new interventional cardiology service while contributing to clinical leadership, education, governance and future service development.

Key responsibilities will include:

- Delivering comprehensive General and Interventional Cardiology services
- Undertaking contemporary interventional procedures, including PCI
- Participating in the development and delivery of primary PCI services
- Establishing models of care, clinical pathways, protocols and referral processes
- Providing clinical leadership in patient safety, clinical governance and quality improvement
- Supporting the development of cardiac capability across the regional referral network
- Supervising and teaching registrars, junior medical officers and Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory staff
- Contributing to multidisciplinary education, research and professional development
- Helping guide the future expansion of specialist cardiac services





The Hospital
This major regional referral hospital provides an extensive range of specialist, acute and emergency services to communities across a large geographical area.
The expanding cardiac service is supported by a growing multidisciplinary team of Cardiologists, Cardiac Physiologists, nurses, junior medical officers, allied health professionals and administrative staff.
The Cardiac Investigations Unit provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic services, including:

- Transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography
- Exercise and dobutamine stress echocardiography
- Exercise stress testing
- Tilt-table testing
- Ambulatory ECG monitoring
- Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring

With its newly developed interventional capability and purpose-built facilities, the hospital is entering an exciting period of clinical growth and establishing itself as a regional centre of excellence for cardiac care.

About You
We are seeking a collaborative and forward-thinking Specialist Cardiologist who offers:

- Specialist qualifications in Cardiology
- Eligibility for specialist registration with AHPRA
- Fellowship-trained or equivalent contemporary experience in Interventional Cardiology
- Current PCI procedural experience
- Experience participating in primary PCI services
- Strong General Cardiology capability
- A commitment to clinical governance, patient safety and service improvement
- An interest in clinical leadership, service establishment and capability development
- Strong communication, teaching and multidisciplinary collaboration skills

Internationally trained specialists who have been assessed as substantially comparable, or who may be eligible for an appropriate specialist registration pathway, are encouraged to enquire.

Remuneration and Benefits





The total remuneration package is valued at up to $564,939 per annum and may include:

- 12.75% employer superannuation
- 17.5% annual leave loading
- 3.6 weeks of professional development leave
- $22,145 professional development allowance
