As our Strategic Urban Designer, you’ll join a growing, award-winning Strategic Land Use and Infrastructure Planning team with a key role in shaping that future. You’ll translate big-picture planning into practical design outcomes, leading urban design strategies, frameworks and master plans, advising on major developments and growth areas, and helping ensure housing, infrastructure and public space come together to create well-designed, connected places.

This is visible, high-impact work, with the opportunity to influence Launceston at every scale from strategic policy and growth planning to individual precincts and development proposals. It’s the kind of role where you can point to a street, neighbourhood, precinct or policy and say, “I helped shape that.”

Key responsibilities of this position include:

- Provide expert urban design advice on strategic planning projects, growth areas, major developments and infrastructure initiatives

- Prepare and implement urban design strategies,



frameworks, precinct plans, master plans and design guidelines that shape the city's growth

- Apply urban design principles to support quality infill development, urban renewal and housing diversity

- Work with Council teams, government agencies, consultants and community stakeholders to embed design excellence across planning and development

About You

We are looking for someone who demonstrates, through behaviour, an alignment and an understanding of Our Values and has the following qualifications, skills and experience:

- Demonstrated experience leading complex urban design and strategic planning projects, from concept through to policy and implementation

- High level expertise in built form analysis, urban design frameworks, structure and master planning, and design guidance

- A degree in urban design, architecture or urban and regional planning, and a current Class C drivers licence

- Highly developed communication and visual presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex design and planning concepts clearly to decision makers, professionals and the community

- Political awareness and the ability to navigate organisational, community and political considerations affecting Council decisions
