The Communications Team is responsible for delivery of an integrated communications strategy with ownership of brand, content, channels and analytics to deliver on core organisational drivers including:

- Promoting the positive contribution of Queensland’s local government sector
- Supporting a robust and influential peak body advocating on behalf of councils across the state
- Connecting members with timely, relevant information, updates and sector insights.

As the Senior Social Media Officer, you will be responsible for managing and growing the Association’s digital and social media strategy and presence, along with enhancing the value of our member portal by ensuring digital content is engaging, up to date and presented in LGAQ voice.

This role is part of our Communications Team and reports to the Communications Operations Manager. You will work closely with the Director, Communications and Brand, the Chief Executive Officer, and a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the availability of high-quality social media and web content which aligns with the LGAQ brand and tone of voice.

The role manages social channels end-to-end, integrates social into broader communications activity, provides strategic advice across the organisation, and uses insights and data to continuously optimise performance and grow audience impact. It is responsible for the consistent moderation of both organic and paid social media run by the LGAQ.

This role may require some out of hours work, which could occur at short notice. Applications from people with diverse lived experience and identities are strongly encouraged, as the more diverse our team is, the better we are able to represent our diverse membership.

This is a full time role based in Newstead, Qld. Regular air and road travel is required, including driving a hire vehicle unaccompanied at times. A current Queensland open driver’s licence, with the ability to drive day or night and comply with any licence conditions, is required.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of the Association’s social media strategy to deliver on core organisational drivers.
- Manage the CEO’s social media presence, including planning, delivery and evaluation of material.




- Establish and maintain community moderation and management standards to ensure all social channels are consistently monitored for social channels for emerging issues, risks, and opportunities.
- Facilitate the development and availability of valued and up to date content on LGAQ’s social media platforms which align with the LGAQs organisational objectives and build increased audience engagement and member representation.
- Analyse and interpret data to maximise engagement and inform communications performance tracking, reporting and optimisation across all digital platforms.
- Grow social media use and capability within staff to enhance the Association’s reputation and presence, in addition to working with identified councils and members to grow reach.
- Provide advice in relation to social media and digital communications within the Association and to the Local Government Communications network, as required.
- Identify opportunities to support and enhance campaigns and other communications to members by leveraging the use of social media.
- Work to support the strategy and deployment of paid social media by the LGAQ in support of organisational drivers.
- Undertake core team tasks including updating website content, preparing and sending EDM’s, initiating SMS alerts, maintaining content in the Digital Asset Management (DAM) system, supporting and growing the LGx network, adhering to brand requirements and use of tracking and analytics to improve performance.
- Fly and/or drive to member sites or other locations, as required.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

- Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Media, Creative Industries or equivalent will be well regarded.
- Demonstrated experience in growing an organisation’s digital and social media presence through development, implementation and evaluation of a digital and social media strategy.
- Demonstrated working capability across key communications platforms and tools, including digital content management systems,



member communications channels and social media management tools.
- Demonstrated ability to gather, analyse and interpret data for building evidence based social media engagement and assessing communications effectiveness.
- High level planning and organisation skills to ensure on time delivery.
- Proven high-level written and verbal communication skills and ability to create a range of engaging digital content.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills including the ability to work with senior stakeholders and to influence and negotiate positive outcomes.
- Ability to occasionally work in an uncertain environment, display tenacity to deliver results with the capacity to be flexible and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities
- A current Queensland unrestricted open driver’s licence including the ability to drive unaccompanied day or night and comply with licence conditions.
- Ability to travel regularly.
