Details: WorkSafe ACT is a fully independent office headed by the Work Health and Safety Commissioner. WorkSafe ACT achieves its objectives through a combination of compliance, enforcement, awareness raising, education, inspection, and investigation.

It is responsible for monitoring and enforcing compliance by duty holders in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act) and associated legislation for Workers' Compensation and Labour Hire Licensing among others.

Legislation shapes almost all the work that WorkSafe ACT does. As such an important part of our agency, we have a permanent vacancy for a motivated and highly organised qualified to fill the role of Legal Policy Officer within our Legal Policy team.

The Legal Policy Officer will draft ad-hoc legal policy advice, develop a variety of guidance content including web content, policy and codes of practice, facilitate requests for external legal advice, assist with instruction on tribunal matters, manage and undertake internal reviews of statutory notices and assist in the review of briefs of evidence for criminal matters.

The successful candidate will have well-developed legal and policy analysis skills, experience working in a legislative or legal environment,



excellent communication skills and knowledge or ability to quickly acquire knowledge of WHS or workers’ compensation laws and related issues.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

- Knowledge of work health and safety or workers’ compensation laws and related legislation is highly desirable.
- Tertiary qualifications or experience in law or currently undertaking a law degree is highly desirable.

Note: A merit list will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.

This position is located in a workplace designated for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk.
